Your work environment at EXP

EXP is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Plumbing Engineer to work in a flexible role that includes engineering, design and specification of building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and process systems for Life Sciences, Research and Development, Pharmaceutical, and cGMP Projects.  Experience with design-bid build, IPD, design-assist and design-build project delivery required in the San Francisco, California office.

 

 

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • REVIT and AutoCAD proficient with working drawings.
  • Be able to lead and mentor junior engineers, engineers and designers level staff on all their responsibilities.
  • Review code related items with engineers to ensure compliance.                                                                           
  • Perform at a responsible charge level of meeting exp design and quality levels.
  • Ability to QC all work of plumbing engineering staff.
  • Apply risk management procedures daily to minimize exp & client's exposure to problems.
  • Creates the narratives (basis of design) for the SD work.
  • Perform front-end loading of plumbing systems.
  • Develop and monitor plumbing work plans.
  • Write new specification sections; develop new details, as required for project needs.
  • Writes studies and reports for plumbing systems when needed on projects.
  • Understand and apply engineering principles and fundamentals.
  • Engineer pure water systems including RODI, WIFI and other high purity filtration.
  • Engineer sanitary and laboratory waste and vent systems.
  • Engineer domestic and industrial cold and hot water systems.
  • Engineer natural gas systems.
  • Engineer tempered water systems.
  • Engineer clean dry air and breathing air systems.
  • Engineer laboratory compressed air systems.
  • Engineer laboratory vacuum systems.
  • Engineer laboratory specialty gas, bulk gas storage and distribution systems.
  • Engineer fire protection systems including sprinkler, fire pump, water storage, containment, gaseous suppression and misting systems.
  • Engineer sustainable plumbing systems including grey water, solar heating, and rainwater harvesting systems.
  • Perform life cycle cost analyses, and energy/cost calculations for plumbing systems.
  • Ability to develop alternative 'Engineered' plumbing systems that meet code.
  • Evaluates value engineering (cost cutting) items with respect to exp level of risk.
  • Select and schedule equipment with limited oversight from senior staff.
  • Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application.
  • Performs field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects.
  • Coordinates with other disciplines (MEPFP, Architectural, Structural, Process, etc.)
  • Maintains the engineering book for the project.
  • Respond to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittal with limited input from senior staff.
  • Solve installation problems with plumbing and piping systems, travel to site to resolve issues.
  • Manage and deliver revisions and sketches.
  • Edit and develop scope of work narratives (Basis of Design, etc.)
  • Meet with contractors during the bid phase to review construction details.

 

 

What your experience looks like

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in related project management and design of Life Sciences, Research and Development, Pharmaceutical, and Critical Facilities systems and building projects.
  • Engineering Degree (BS Mechanical, BS Architectural Engineering, or equivalent) from an accredited school.
  • PE License.
  • Ability to travel – San Francisco/bay area, San Diego, Chicago, Canada.

 

The pay range for this role is $120,000 to $170,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
