Turo is the world's largest car sharing marketplace, and design is one of our sharpest competitive edges. We're hiring a Staff Product Designer for our Guest Experience team. We're looking for someone who can own projects end-to-end and bring rare visual, interaction, and motion craft to every surface they touch.
You'll need the full toolkit — design strategy, experience flows, cross-functional partnership, and strong product judgment. But what will set you apart, and what this role specifically demands, is exceptional craft. We want someone whose work makes other designers stop and ask, "who made this?" and whose presence raises the bar for everyone around them.
About the team
The Guest Design team is a close-knit group of about 10 designers, ranging from mid-level to staff. We operate in a high-visibility environment where craft quality is a shared priority at every level. Designers lead through the strength of their work. We push each other, critique with care, and iterate until the finish commands confidence at the highest levels of the company.
We have a robust research team and tight partnerships with product management, which means you'll have real support and genuine collaborators, not just stakeholders to manage. This is a place that takes design seriously, invests in it, and gives you the room to do the best work of your career.
What you will do
You'll own complex, high-impact challenges across the guest journey, from problem framing and experience flows through north star vision and high-fidelity execution across native mobile and desktop web. Strategy and UX fundamentals are part of the job, but your deepest impact will come through craft.
Define and evolve our interaction model for high-stakes guest moments — browsing, deciding, booking — by designing core interaction patterns, micro-interactions and flows that reduce cognitive load and make complex decisions feel effortless.
Advance our motion language by designing transitions, animations, and state changes that feel intentional and cohesive, then establishing those standards across native and web surfaces.
Use the sharpest prototyping tools available to convey concepts and solutions at high fidelity, staying on the edge of what's possible to accelerate alignment and give teams the confidence to build the best solution.
Push our visual and expressive baseline. Bring a sophisticated eye to typography, color, density, and layout, and help us evolve our digital brand expression in ways that outpace our competition and set the example for the broader design industry.
Mentor at scale by sharing your craft through critique, workshops, and side-by-side collaboration to raise the bar across the team on motion, interaction, and visual design.
Use AI as a deliberate design tool. Leverage it to accelerate exploration and sharpen iteration where it genuinely helps, alongside the judgment to know when the work requires a human hand.
Your profile
We'd love to hear from you if you bring:
12+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio that demonstrates exceptional interaction, visual, and motion craft on consumer-facing native apps and web products.
The ability to own a project from strategy through execution, including experience flows, product thinking, and cross-functional collaboration, without needing a UX partner on every initiative.
A distinct craft signature with work that shows taste, restraint, and a clear point of view on how consumer digital experiences should look and feel at a premium tier.
Deep fluency in interaction design across information hierarchy, motion systems, transition design, and the micro-details that elevate an experience from competent to exceptional.
Strong visual design fundamentals across typography, layout, color, and density, applied with consumer-grade polish.
Proven prototyping skills. You build to think, not just to present, and your prototypes are capable of testing real hypotheses.
Experience mentoring other designers on craft through critique, structured knowledge-sharing, or leading by example in how you work.
Independent thinking. You engage with problem framing as a creative act, look at problems from multiple angles, and develop solutions that address root causes rather than symptoms.
Clear, confident communication. You can articulate rationale, navigate tradeoffs, and build alignment without losing the integrity of the design.
You Might Be an Especially Good Fit If...
If one or more of these sound like you, we'd especially love to hear from you. We're not looking for all of it.
You genuinely love mentoring and sharing your craft. Not because it's expected, but because helping other designers grow is something you find meaningful and energizing.
You're an active voice in the design community, whether through speaking at conferences and panels, writing, or other forms of public craft-sharing. We'll support you in doing more of it.
You have map, spatial, or data-rich interface design experience. Helping guests find the right car in the right place is a core part of what we do, and there's meaningful design work to be done there.
You've designed for consumer shopping or booking funnels, where the quality of the decision-making journey directly affects whether someone converts and comes back.
You've worked on a real-time or multi-sided marketplace product, where supply, demand, and trust signals all have to work together in a single experience.
You have a voracious appetite for what's next. You stress-test new tools, play with emerging technology, and get genuinely excited about pushing the edges of what's feasible, not because it's trendy, but because you can't help yourself.
You're energized by the idea of growing as a craft leader, not into management but deeper into your discipline. Our IC track runs through Principal and beyond, and we're building the kind of environment where that path is just as valued and visible as any other.
