Job Description


Classification: Part-time, Non-exempt, Instructional Support, Academic Year

Reporting to: Director of Learning Strategies

Schedule: 27 hrs/week beginning Aug 15, 2026

Compensation: $50.50 – $53.50/hour + Generous Benefits


Urban School seeks a highly motivated, organized and collaborative individual for the Academic Support Coordinator position to begin in the 2026-27 school year. The Academic Support Coordinator is a part time, 27 hour/week position that provides support for the Learning Strategies Office and other school academic support programs as well as providing academic support in individual and small group settings. 


Duties and responsibilities
  • Program Management (12 hours): 

    • Supported Study Group Program: The Academic Support Coordinator will schedule and assign students to study groups, and work closely with adult and peer tutors. 

    • Peer Tutoring Program: The Academic Support Coordinator will train peer tutors, assign tutor pairs, and support all students in the program. 

    • The ASC is also responsible for communicating clearly with students, teachers, and the Learning Strategies department about peer tutoring and supported study groups. 

  • Direct student support - math and science (6 hours) 

    • Small group and one-on-one tutoring during lunch for math and science. 

    • Review material for 9th and 10th grade math and science. Follow all courses in Schoology and be prepared to support students in these subjects. 

    • Communicate with teachers about student support needs and progress. Communicate with grade deans about all necessary schedule changes. 

  • Creating & updating resources (3 hours)

    • Update students’ Learning Plans and communicate new information with teachers 

    • Maintain up to date resources and tools on the Learning Strategies student-facing website

    • Ensure faculty are up to date on process to request support for students. 

    • Scan/OCR readers at beginning of term, share with students

    • Review draft interim/CRs and provide teacher feedback for select group of students with Learning Plans

    • Read select incoming admissions files

  • Proctoring for extended time (3 hours)

    • Proctoring for after school testing for 3 days/week

  • Data Analysis (1 hour)

    • In collaboration with the Dean of Curriculum and Analytics, compile and analyze longitudinal data of students accessing supports (i.e. Bridge, LPs, SSG, FA)

    • Interview select students with LPs or who have accessed SSGs to incorporate qualitative data in holistic assessment

  • AI Technology research (1 hour)

    • Research and select AI strategies relevant for students with Learning Plans

    • Communicate with relevant student/s about the strategies, add to Learning Plans, and train students as needed

  • 12th grade support (1 hour)

    • August/Sept:

      • Email 12th graders with LPs prior to senior year with plans and seek updates. 

      • Update 12th grade LP strategies/challenges based on student feedback

    • Spring term:

      • Support transition to college of seniors with LPs by connecting them with college level learning supports

Qualifications

  • Teaching or other leadership experience in a middle or secondary school setting

  • Math (Algebra, Geometry & Trig) and science (Biology and Chemistry) knowledge at the high school level required 

  • Strong communication and organizational skills 

  • An authentic consonance with the stated core values of the Urban School

  • Enjoys working with teenagers 

  • Spanish language fluency is a plus! 

Salary and Benefits

The anticipated hourly rate the School reasonably expects to pay candidates for the position of Academic Support Coordinator in San Francisco is $50.50 to $53.50/hr.
