Job Description

Federal Work Study IND Workshop Assistants will assist in the general daily operations of the IND Shop, which includes supporting students and faculty and supporting the Industrial Design Department with basic administrative functions.

This Federal Work Study position will support current students by providing opportunities for students to use the Shop toolroom equipment and assisting students in the use and checkout of the approved tools. In addition, this position will complement and reinforce a Federal Work Study student’s educational program or vocational goals by providing opportunities for the Work Study IND Workshop Assistant to increase their skills with current equipment, learn customer service skills, and learn basic administrative skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Check equipment and tools in and out of the Shop toolroom for students and faculty.

  • Monitor Shop usage to ensure students are adhering to lab policies.

  • Assist with the maintenance of approved Shop equipment and tools.

  • Assist/partake in in-house projects as assigned

  • Assist with general departmental administrative tasks.

  • Familiar with or willing to learn the usage of specialized key departments (3D printing, laser cutting, wood/metal shop, paint) is preferred

Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

  • Familiar with or willing to learn basic 3D modeling software (ie. rhino/fusion/etc.) is preferred

1849 Washington & 1835 Van Ness (Warehouse)

 

Reports to: Max Cohen

 

Pay Rate: $19.18 per hour

Work Schedule: Flexible Schedule for the following days:
Monday - 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
Tuesday - 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
Wednesday - 8:30 am to 6:30 pm
Thursday - 8:30 am to 6:30 pm
Friday - 8:30 am to 6:30 pm

Federal Work Study schedules can work up to 20 hours per week*


*Federal Work Study work schedules may not conflict with the student's class schedule.

Length of Employment: The student's starting term at the Academy of Art University through graduation.
