Job Description:          Sr. Electrical DC-DC Design Engineer

Summary:

The Sr. Electrical Design Engineer for high reliability DC-DC converters for Space and Military applications supports the development of new DC-DC converters.  The Engineer is responsible for the design documentation, analyses and qualification of new DC-DC converters that will have a direct impact on meeting our product road map objectives.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Architect and design isolated and non-isolated DC-DC converters and support production in new product DC-DC Converter development activites.
  • Responsible for the release of new design packages (documentation)
  • Perform worst-case circuit analysis (WCCA), derating analysis, and stress analysis for high-reliability applications.
  • Develop simulation models (LTspice or equivalent).
  • Develop power stage magnetics (transformers, inductors) including core selection, winding design, thermal analysis, and leakage control.
  • Conduct detailed loss modeling, efficiency optimization, and thermal design.
  • Design for radiation tolerance and total ionizing dose (TID) considerations where applicable.
  • Support EMI/EMC compliance per MIL-STD-461 and related standards.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Generate detailed schematics and guide PCB layout for low noise, high efficiency, and high reliability.
  • Review customer specifications and internal datasheets.
  • Present designs at PDR, CDR, and other formal design reviews.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices.
  • Perform test validation, qualification, and product release to production per corporate standards and procedures.
  • Support the test and product engineering teams to help solve problems
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Build meaningful and productive relationships with internal business partners.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Contribute to building a positive team spirit.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of employees.
  • Protect confidential information by not communicating, disclosing to, or using it for the benefit of 3rd parties.
  • Maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity at all times.

Job Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineering with minimum 5 years converter design experience
  • Knowledge of electronic engineering principles including analog circuits, power supplies, and isolated DC-DC converter design.
  • Experience with schematics and PCB design.
  • Hands-on experience performing bench electrical measurements using signal generators, DVMs, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as teamwork capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with multiple stakeholders.

 

 

Job Skills:

  • Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for design or field issues.
  • Standard electronic laboratory equipment: (i.e., Oscilloscopes, Pulse/Signal Generators, Parametric Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, etc).
  • Interface with customers and program managers on technical requirements and reviews.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to align priorities in accordance with business goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team player who can work with different multiple team members
