Position Summary 

Foxconn is seeking a detail-oriented AOI Technician to support our Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) manufacturing operations. The AOI Technician is responsible for operating, programming, maintaining, and optimizing Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment to ensure product quality and compliance with customer specifications. This role works closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to identify defects, improve inspection effectiveness, and support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities. 

The ideal candidate has experience in electronics manufacturing, PCB assembly processes, IPC standards, and AOI inspection systems. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Operate and monitor AOI equipment to inspect PCB assemblies throughout the manufacturing process. 

  • Create, modify, optimize, and validate AOI inspection programs for new and existing products. 

  • Perform first article inspections and verify inspection accuracy prior to production release. 

  • Analyze AOI inspection results, identify false calls, and optimize inspection parameters to improve detection accuracy and reduce unnecessary rejects. 

  • Troubleshoot AOI equipment, programs, and inspection-related issues to minimize production downtime. 

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Process Engineering to improve inspection coverage and manufacturing yield. 

  • Review PCB assemblies for solder defects, missing components, polarity issues, placement accuracy, insufficient solder, bridging, tombstoning, lifted leads, and other assembly defects. 

  • Escalate recurring quality issues and support root cause investigations and corrective actions. 

  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) builds by developing and validating AOI inspection programs. 

  • Maintain AOI equipment, perform routine preventive maintenance, and coordinate repairs with equipment vendors when necessary. 

  • Verify compliance with IPC workmanship standards and customer quality requirements. 

  • Maintain accurate inspection records, production documentation, and equipment logs. 

  • Work closely with Quality, Production, SMT, and Test teams to resolve manufacturing issues. 

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, throughput, and inspection efficiency. 

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company policies. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Required Skills 

  • Working knowledge of PCB assembly and SMT manufacturing processes. 

  • Experience with AOI systems (TRI). Other systems experience accepted. 

  • Ability to interpret assembly drawings, Gerber files, BOMs, assembly instructions, and engineering documentation. 

  • Familiarity with IPC-610 workmanship standards. 

  • Knowledge of common SMT defects and failure modes. 

  • Basic understanding of solder paste printing, SPI, SMT placement, and reflow processes. 

  • Ability to troubleshoot AOI programs and optimize inspection performance. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. 

Education 

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electronics, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred. 

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating or programming AOI equipment in a PCBA or electronics manufacturing environment. 

  • Experience supporting SMT manufacturing processes is highly preferred. 

  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) is a plus.
