Product Development Technician 1
Position Summary
This is a technical, individual contributor role responsible for setting up programs and running complex equipment and machine tools used in the production of product. This position may also perform simple and complex maintenance on production and support machines.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up/program and run complex equipment and machine tools used in the production of product.
- Perform both simple and complex maintenance on production and support machines.
- Review and complete necessary data capture.
- Review processes and implement improvements per change procedures (i.e. copy exact).
- Run and maintain test equipment per procedure.
- Serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.
- May orient, train, and assign/review the work of other team members.
- Troubleshoot process, equipment, and product issues and contribute to problem-solving activities.
- Recommend and implement solutions within the designated area of responsibility.
- Identify ways to reduce waste and improve business processes using the Watlow Business System.
- Apply knowledge of processes, tools, and techniques across multiple work areas and train others on specific skills.
- Demonstrate approachability, credibility, strong interpersonal listening and communication capabilities, and WW Leader Behaviors.
Business Partner Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Maintenance on Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
- Work with New Product Development (NPD) to deliver designs and prototypes for manufacturing.
- Collaborate with engineers to implement change improvements.
- Provide support for Engineering as needed, including plasma surface treatment, screen printing, and custom material preparation.
- Assist with various R&D projects.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED preferred.
- Two-year degree or Technical Certificate preferred, or 3-5 years of related experience.
- Experience using micrometers and calipers.
- Leadership training.
- Experience with elastomer bulk mixing using different types of mixers.
- Experience with elastomer filtration preparation and processing.
- Experience preparing samples for durometer, lap shear, and thermal conductivity testing.
- Experience with elastomer testing tools including viscometer, durometer, Instron, and thermal conductivity meter.
- Experience with primer pot assembly and repacking, elastomer sheet molding using calender equipment, and mold release preparation.

Physical Requirements
Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment. The role requires frequent walking, constant standing, occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing, and frequent close-up and peripheral visual work. The position requires frequent lifting/pushing/pulling of up to 20 pounds and occasional handling of 20-50 pounds. It also involves frequent grasping and manipulating, following written instructions and set procedures, decision making, and the ability to work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week. The role may involve occasional exposure to noise, dirt, dust, smoke, fumes, indoor and outdoor temperature variations, and occasional intrastate, interstate, and international travel.
