Minimum qualifications:

  • Experience with 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (e.g., NX or SolidWorks).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with opto-mechanical tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability (DFM), and design for assembly (DFA).
  • Experience with optical alignment strategies, optical testing and metrology, and direct use of lab-based equipment.
  • Experience bringing complex designs from NTI phase to mass production with external vendors and contract manufacturers in Asia.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and optimal selection processes of materials, adhesives, and coatings used in optical systems.

About the job:

As a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer, you will lead optical-display module system design and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews of display systems integration, such as high precision alignment approaches, product interface features for integration process, and critical product interface that drives integration performance.

You will serve as the technical Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for opto-mechanical display subsystem design, development, and implementation for head worn devices, including wave guide, display engines, and Rx lenses. You will work closely with external partners to support technology deployment and product development.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive end-to-end discussions on system assembly process down-selection, prototyping, equipment and tooling needs for high precision assembly meeting mechanical, optical and reliability requirements.
  • Lead development and architecture efforts for miniaturization of novel opto-mechanical subsystems, working with other system and cross-functional leads to arrive at reusable designs optimized for consumer usage.
  • Work to drive design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) efforts from early New Technology Introduction (NTI) to prototype to mass production, working closely with internal and external partners and contract manufacturers.
  • Own and develop comprehensive requirements documents and tolerance stackup analyses to ensure performance and reliability of opto-mechanical systems through the conditions expected by mass production consumer hardware.
  • Establish mechanical and optical datuming and metrology strategies, using these strategies to devise reliable and fixtures, measurement capabilities, and validation approaches.
