The Medical Assistant / Patient Services Representative (MA/PSR) is a hybrid role responsible for supporting both clinical and front office operations to ensure high-quality, efficient, and service-oriented patient care. This position works as part of the care team to deliver a positive patient experience by providing direct patient care services, assisting providers, and managing patient flow from check-in through check-out.
The MA/PSR performs clinical duties such as rooming patients, taking vital signs, executing standing orders, and assisting with procedures, while also handling front office responsibilities including patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and responding to patient inquiries. The role requires effective communication, accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), and collaboration with providers and staff to support continuity of care

Essential Functions
Clinical (Medical Assistant) Responsibilities
- Room patients and prepare them for examination by obtaining vital signs, medical history, and reason for visit
- Document patient information accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Perform clinical tasks in accordance with standing orders and provider direction, including immunizations, TB testing, specimen collection, and basic lab procedures
- Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments
- Prepare and clean exam rooms; ensure proper stocking of medical supplies and equipment
- Monitor patient flow and support timely delivery of care
- Provide patient education and instructions as directed by providers
- Report changes in patient condition to appropriate clinical staff
Communication
- Communicates with clients and patients in a respectful manner that creates and sustains positive working relationships
- Welcomes patients and verifies appointment time and type
- Assists patients and caretakers with the completion of medical history forms as needed
- Verifies patient eligibility to participate in public programs
- Addresses patient questions concerning services or method of payment
- Administers the Certification of Income form and documents sliding fee schedule eligibility
- Explains insurance coverage
- Schedules patient appointments
Patient Relations
- Provides positive, supportive and caring behavior in all communications with patients, visitors, health center staff and community members
- Adheres to the policies, procedures, and standards of Camino Health Center
- Acts as Spanish-English interpreter between provider and client when needed
- Interprets accurately and at a level appropriate for the client
Minimum Position Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or GED required
- Experience/Training: Bilingual in English/Spanish
- License/Certification: Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited program; Current BLS certification
Additional Requirements
- Able to work flexible hours
- Able to work at various health center locations and outreach sites
- Must have reliable transportation
20 hours in San Juan Capistrano (Tuesday/Thursday 8:00am-7:00pm)
Remaining 20 hours to be worked based on business needs at other Camino locations (Lake Forest, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente)
