The CNC Programmer III leads the development of complex CNC programs for high-risk aerospace components, mentors junior programmers, and ensures process robustness across production environments. Tasks and responsibilities expected for this role include those captured by lower role specific levels. Â
This role involves working closely with engineers, production technicians, and operations teams to support multiple programs and value streams.Â
Key Responsibilities:Â
- Lead programming for complex, multi-axis aerospace partsÂ
- Advise on fixture design and part setup strategiesÂ
- Integrate programming standards into production workflowsÂ
- Troubleshoot program-related machining issuesÂ
- Conduct training and mentoring for Program I–II personnelÂ
- Participate in design-for-manufacturability (DFM) reviewsÂ
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on tooling and process improvementsÂ
- Perform program validation using simulation, dry runs, and machine testsÂ
Responsibilities (Level II):Â
- Generate basic 2–3 axis CNC programs using approved CAM softwareÂ
- Interpret engineering drawings and identify features to machineÂ
- Select appropriate tools, speeds, feeds, and cutting strategies per standard guidelinesÂ
- Validate programs via simulation and identify obvious collisions or issuesÂ
- Support machinists and manufacturing engineering during first runsÂ
- Maintain and update tooling libraries per standardsÂ
- Document program revisions and configuration control dataÂ
- Follow safety and quality standards (AS9100, FOD, PPE protocols)Â
Responsibilities (Level III):Â
- Develop CNC programs (3–5 axis) based on engineering drawings and process plansÂ
- Optimize toolpaths for efficiency and qualityÂ
- Collaborate with machinists to validate programs on the machineÂ
- Ensure programs comply with GD&T, tolerances, and surface finish requirementsÂ
- Define tooling, fixturing, and cutting parametersÂ
- Support production ramps and resolve machining issuesÂ
- Participate in first-article inspections and initial validationÂ
- Maintain program version controlÂ
Qualifications:Â Â
- 5+ years of CNC programming experienceÂ
- Deep knowledge of multi-axis programming challengesÂ
- Strong understanding of GD&T and aerospace tolerancesÂ
- Experience mentoring and leading program effortsÂ
Compensation:
Level II - $44.00 - $53.50 per hour
Level III - $53.50 - $63.00 per hour
