Weāre seeking a Director of Marketing Strategy & OperationsĀ to serve as theĀ strategic and operational hubĀ of the Rakuten Rewards Marketing organization. This role sits at the intersection ofĀ strategy, analytics, and execution, ensuring that marketing priorities, investments, and operating rhythms are tightly aligned with business outcomes.Ā
Reporting directly to the CMO, this leader will help define what matters most, translate strategy into action, and ensure the organization is well-resourced, effectively measured, and held accountable. You will work closely with senior marketing leaders, Finance, Analytics, Product, and Revenue teams to drive clarity, rigor, and momentum across a complex, fast-moving environment.Ā
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can zoom out to set direction and zoom in to solve problemsāusing data, structured thinking, and strong operational judgment.Ā

Strategic Planning &Ā Road MappingĀ
- OwnĀ the end-to-end marketing planning process (annual, quarterly, and in-quarter), including setting priorities, sequencing initiatives, and driving alignment across Brand, Growth, Product Marketing, Loyalty, Partnerships, and Retention.Ā
- TranslateĀ businessĀ objectivesĀ into clear, actionable marketing strategies, with defined success metrics and resource implications.Ā
- Pressure-test assumptions, surface trade-offs, and recommend where to invest, where to pull back, and why.Ā
- EstablishĀ clear operating rhythms that connect strategy to execution (planning cycles, reviews, decision forums).Ā
PerformanceĀ Analytics & Operational DisciplineĀ
- DefineĀ and own the marketing performance framework, including KPIs, dashboards, and leading indicators tied to growth, efficiency, and LTV.Ā
- PartnerĀ with Analytics to move beyond reporting into insight generationādiagnosing performance,Ā identifyingĀ root causes, and recommending action.Ā
- ProactivelyĀ identifyĀ risks, bottlenecks, and underperformance, and drive cross-functional resolution.Ā
- Lead quarterly business reviews, executive readouts, and post-mortems with a focus on learning and course correction.Ā
Budgeting,Ā ROI, & Financial RigorĀ
- Own the marketing investment framework, partnering with Finance to forecast spend, model scenarios, and ensure disciplined resource allocation.Ā
- EvaluateĀ ROI across channels, programs, and initiativesāmaking clear recommendations on optimization and reallocation.Ā
- DevelopĀ forward-looking views on efficiency, scalability, and return, not just historical performance.Ā
- HelpĀ leadership balance growth ambitions with financial discipline.Ā
Cross-FunctionalĀ LeadershipĀ
- Act as a trusted strategic partnerĀ toĀ Marketing leadership, Product, Finance, Sales, and Analytics.Ā
- LeadĀ complex, ambiguous initiatives that cut across teams (e.g., GTM prioritization, operating model changes,Ā toolingĀ and process evolution).Ā
- CreateĀ clarity where there is ambiguity; bring structure to fast-moving problems.Ā
Executive StorytellingĀ Ā
- SynthesizeĀ complex analyses into clear, concise executive narratives.Ā
- LeadĀ with the āso whatā before diving into detail.Ā
- DevelopĀ frameworks and point-of-view documents that guide decision-making at the CMO and executive level.Ā
- SupportĀ the CMO inĀ preparingĀ executive and board-level discussions as needed.Ā
QualificationsĀ Ā
- 8ā12+ years of experience in strategy, marketing operations, business planning, growth strategy, or management consulting,Ā ideally in a consumer-facing digital business.Ā
- DemonstratedĀ ability toĀ operateĀ as a strategic thought partner to senior leaders.Ā
- Strong analytical skills withĀ a track recordĀ of turning data into decisions.Ā
- ComfortĀ navigating ambiguity, driving prioritization, and holding teams accountable.Ā
- Advanced Excel and PowerPointĀ required; fluency in BI tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.)Ā is stronglyĀ preferred.Ā
- Exceptional written and verbal communicator with executive presence.Ā
- Experience reporting directly to a CMO, GM, or business unit leader strongly preferred.Ā
- Bachelor's Degree Required,Ā master's degreeĀ PreferredĀ Ā

Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location.
