POSITION SUMMARY: The Elementary School Teacher is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate Elementary School program in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
The Elementary School Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing appropriate learning activities and experiences designated to fulfill student’s potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Further, s/he will enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. They must ensure the development and safety of these children in accordance with relevant federal, territorial and municipal legislation and policies. The Elementary School Teacher will be respectful of children and parents and ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe and well maintained. Failure to provide adequate services may place children at risk.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: Employees must be able to perform the Essential Functions of the Job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, technology and computers, and music to students in a classroom, utilizing a course of study approved by KC Management and other appropriate learning activities.
Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
Use a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
Translate lesson plans into learning experiences as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
Produce and teach an equivalent distance learning program (both synchronously or asynchronously) as deemed necessary by the Head.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the social program.
Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities and outside continuing education courses or conferences.
Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines.
Supervise students in out of classroom activities during the school day.
Administer group standardized tests in accordance with the designated testing program.
Establish and enforce rules of behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
Assign and grade class work and homework.
OTHER FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.
Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
Attend all staff meetings and department meetings as scheduled by the administration.
Label and organize materials
Participate in community and marketing events, which will likely fall outside of the standard working hours.
Participate in all school events including, but not limited to: KC Information Night, Open House, and Back to School Night. All school events are required, not just those noted above.
Participate in marketing and PR activities to promote Kids Connection and to educate parents.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma (or GED), Bachelor’s degree in related subject from an accredited university
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Active California Teaching Credential preferred, but not required
CPR certification required
Current fingerprinting and pass the licensing requirement with government authorities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects and controls such as those on learning toys and writing implements
Talk and hear in person and on the telephone
Reach with hands and arms, grasp objects, push/pull file drawers of 10-50 points, twist the upper body, rotate the wrist, and use finger dexterity for writing and using the computer.
Lift a child up to 50 pounds by yourself or over 50 pounds by yourself and another person from floor to chair, or floor to play structure, and carry for a distance of 10 to 40 feet
Bend to help a child or pick up toys or books, push in chairs, on the floor or at their desks
Stand for up to 5 hours a day
Walk for a distance of 10 to 100 feet up to 5 hours per day
Climb stairs
Repetitive lifting to arrange for use- learning toys, desks, chairs, tables to accommodate activities
Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The essential functions of the job must be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
Work is performed with the presence of children the majority of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the employee will have to supervise all children at all times. The employee may experience smells associated with children including those who are ill.
