High-definition 3D maps are critical for enabling fully autonomous driving. We are looking for highly motivated individuals who enjoy solving challenging real-world problems and leading projects. You will act as a technical lead on the 3D Mapping team, a diverse set of engineers who are working together to build large-scale HD mapping algorithms, processes, and pipelines. Your technical leadership will be critical as the team rapidly scales the rate at which we map new cities and the rate at which we update maps.

In this role, you will:
  • Design and develop novel algorithms and ML models for 2D/3D machine perception and mapping in real-world environments

  • Contribute to large-scale, automated mapping pipelines

  • Be a technical leader on the team, maintaining coding and ML development best practices and making architectural decisions

  • Help to set the vision for the team and build out technical roadmaps

  • Coordinate cross-functional initiatives and collaborate with engineers from Mapping, Perception, Planner, Simulation, Data Science, and more

  • Drive the use of metrics and tools to guide development, validate algorithms, and measure progress


Qualifications:
  • MS or PhD or equivalent experience (5+ years) in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience in computer vision or robotics
  • Experience with training and deploying deep learning models
  • Proficiency in Python and/or C++
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects


Bonus Qualifications:
  • Experience with high definition (HD) maps

  • Experience with 3D computer vision, 3D reconstruction, or SLAM

  • Experience with geospatial data and coordinate systems

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
