Department: Nursing

Hours: 12-hour shifts, Weekend and Holiday Rotations required. Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands. Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy.

Job Summary:
Under the direction of Nursing Leadership and with limited supervision and according to established policies and procedures, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care, performs all duties to meet patient care needs for all patient populations and oversees the care provided by other nursing staff. Performs all required nursing duties/roles/procedures for all patient populations to produce consistent high-quality services. Provides for pertinent applicable documentation; provides patients with health promotion and disease prevention education. The Registered Nurse participates in cross training to Medical/Surgical Services and Emergency Services. Responsible for interacting with hospital staff and/or providers regarding patient care, concerns, and conflicts by identifying and assisting in the resolutions. Frequent, daily contacts with patients and their families. Frequent contact with other hospital employees, and physicians/providers. Responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills. Participates in a rotation of holidays and weekends. Participates in a Low Census on-call status, when applicable. This position summary contains the most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other assignments not mentioned.

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

  1. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  2. Current Michigan Board of Nursing license as a Registered Nurse with required renewals
  3. One year of medical-surgical nursing, emergency nursing or equivalent experience, preferred.
  4. Knowledge of current nursing standards of practice
  5. BLS Certification required within 3 months of hire and recertification as required
  6. ACLS & TNCC required within 1 year of hire and recertification as required
  7. Ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, physicians and all other support hospital & external personnel.
  8. Ability to function in a leadership position by serving as a resource person and assuming leadership role in emergency/crisis situation.
  9. Ability to influence the direction of professional nursing practice by maintaining a positive perspective/attitude and participation in the promotion of change to keep current with health care
  10. Ability to integrate population health and provide quality improvement concepts into patient care.
  11. Organized and has the ability to manage multiple tasks in a stressful situation while maintaining composure and excellence in the delivery of nursing services.
  12. Exemplary critical thinking, and technical skills essential to job
  13. Ability to provide and promote excellence in the delivery of services to both internal and external customers
  14. Desire to be part of a health care team dedicated to providing the community and patients optimal care and excellent service
  15. A sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty and a positive attitude
