TITLE: Specialty Clinic Manager DEPARTMENT: Healthcare Practices

STATUS: Full-Time: 40 hours per week 

HOURS: Day shift. However, position may require evening and weekend hours. Hours may be variable to meet office/patient needs. Location may be variable. Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands.

ROLE/POSITION DEFINITION: The Department Manager is responsible for: day-to-day planning, staff scheduling, productivity of department staff, delegating department duties/tasks, identification of department needs and implementation of change to meet needs, participating in progressive disciplinary measures to address performance issues of department staff, assisting in setting department goals, observing and providing feedback to employees, and ensuring department conformance to hospital policies and regulatory agency standards. The Department Manager has a strong working knowledge of the scope of service and processes in the department. Is responsible to maintain knowledge of current trends and changes in department specialty. The Department Manager demonstrates excellent customer service and collaboration skills in both internal and external interactions. Is required to demonstrate and promote the values and mission of the hospital throughout daily activities. 

QUALIFICATIONS/POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A. Education/Experience

  1. High School Graduate or equivalency, required.
  2. Completion of a formal MA education program or equivalent required.
  3. Previous management experience, preferred. 
  4. Previous Medical Assistant clinical experience in a Specialty Healthcare office, or equivalent, required. 
  5. 1 year previous experience performing receptionist duties, preferred. 
  6. Previous experience working with general public, required.
  7. Computer skills required. 
  8. Previous experience in medical professional billing, coding, insurance verification, desired.

B. Licensure/Certification

  1. Certification as Medical Assistant, or equivalent, required within 3 months of hire. 
  2. Current BLS certification required within 6 months of hire. 

C. Personal Skills

  1. Ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, providers and other support personnel.
  2. Supports and contributes to the total hospital system by maintaining hospital-wide perspective and serving on department/hospital committees as requested.
  3. Influences the direction of Specialty Care Practice by maintaining composure, excellence and a positive perspective/attitude.
  4. Ability to promote and adapt to change in order to remain current with standards of practice and services in the Specialty Care Practice office setting. 
  5. Ability to apply the principles of quality care and service in the Medical Assistant role, in the Specialty Care Practice office setting. 
  6. Evidence of a sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty and positive attitude.
  7. Knowledge and ability to learn the safe use of various office equipment.
  8. Demonstrates ability to manage multiple tasks in a stressful situation while maintaining composure.
