C0130J Digitization Engineer

Design | Manufacturing | Tooling

We are seeking an experienced C-130J Digitization Engineer to support engineering, manufacturing, tooling, and digital transformation activities associated with the C-130J program. This position will primarily support work performed in Marietta, Georgia.

The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in 3D CAD model validation, engineering drawing interpretation and revision, technical inquiry resolution, tooling and production-part scanning, point-cloud data validation, manufacturing engineering, and tool engineering. Candidates should have strong experience with aircraft manufacturing environments and be proficient in CATIA V5 and/or 3D EXPERIENCE.

 

Responsibilities:

 

3D Model Validation

  • Review 3D CAD models developed internally or by third-party suppliers.
  • Validate that 3D models comply with applicable 2D engineering drawings and established 3D modeling standards and guidelines.
  • Document model reviews using established engineering checklists and processes.
  • Identify discrepancies and communicate required model corrections to third-party suppliers.
  • Perform model reviews and validation using CATIA V5.

Technical Inquiry Resolution

  • Review and resolve technical inquiries submitted by third-party suppliers.
  • Interpret 2D engineering drawings, specifications, and design requirements to resolve engineering questions.
  • Address discrepancies between drawings, models, tooling, and production requirements.
  • Provide technical direction regarding 3D modeling practices.
  • Perform or support assembly clash and interference analysis.
  • Coordinate with engineering leadership and subject-matter experts when additional technical resolution is required.

2D Engineering Drawing Revisions

  • Review and revise existing 2D engineering drawings to correct discrepancies and support C-130J digitization requirements.
  • Incorporate approved engineering and configuration changes into production documentation.
  • Develop drawing revisions using CCD and CATIA V5.
  • Ensure revised drawings comply with applicable engineering standards, specifications, GD&T requirements, and manufacturing processes.

Master Tool and Production Part/Assembly Scanning Oversight

  • Coordinate scanning activities for:
    • Master control tools.
    • Production detail parts.
    • Production assemblies.
  • Work with third-party scanning suppliers to ensure scanning activities meet program requirements.
  • Review scanning plans, deliverables, and technical issues.
  • Review and update tooling drawings as required to support digitization activities.
  • Support the storage, organization, and cataloging of tooling and scan-related engineering data.
  • Coordinate with production, manufacturing engineering, tool engineering, and supplier teams throughout the scanning process.

Digital Tool and Production Scan Data Validation

  • Validate digital scan data and associated deliverables provided by third-party suppliers.
  • Review 3D models, scan data, and point-cloud data for accuracy, completeness, and conformity to engineering requirements.
  • Compare digital scan data against engineering drawings, tooling requirements, and physical configuration information.
  • Identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform model review and validation using CATIA V5.

Manufacturing and Tool Engineering Support

  • Provide general production engineering support for the C-130 program.
  • Supplement existing engineering teams based on program workload and priorities.
  • Support both manufacturing engineering and tool engineering activities.
  • Evaluate manufacturing and assembly requirements for aircraft structures and components.
  • Support resolution of shop-floor engineering issues related to tooling, fabrication, assembly, drawings, and digital models.
  • Work under the direction of established engineering and program leadership.

Program and Resource Reporting

  • Accurately document work activities and hours charged to C-130 programs.
  • Maintain complete and accurate timekeeping records in accordance with program requirements.
  • Provide required information to support weekly resource and labor reporting.
  • Ensure records are available for verification by program management and customers when required.

 

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Experience reading and interpreting 2D engineering drawings, tooling and tool-design drawings, parts lists, bills of materials (BOMs), and manufacturing and design-process specifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with CATIA V5 and/or 3DEXPERIENCE.
  • Ability to create and modify 3D detail-part models and create, review, and evaluate assemblies.
  • Experience performing clash, interference, fit, and assembly analysis.
  • Experience working in an aircraft manufacturing, aerospace production, or aircraft assembly environment.
  • Knowledge of aircraft fabrication and assembly processes, including machining, sheet-metal fabrication and forming, welding, and mechanical assembly.
  • Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies between engineering drawings, digital models, tooling, production requirements, and physical hardware.
  • Experience designing or developing tooling used for aircraft part fabrication and assembly.
  • Experience with aerospace tooling involving critical interchangeable features, close-tolerance interfaces, and mating features.
  • Experience evaluating, modifying, or updating tooling designs and engineering drawings.
  • Experience scanning production parts, assemblies, and tooling.
  • Experience reviewing and processing 3D scan and point-cloud data.
  • Understanding of dimensional inspection and validation methods for digitally scanned aircraft hardware.
  • Ability to coordinate technical activities with engineering teams, production personnel, program leadership, and third-party suppliers.
  • Ability to work onsite in Marietta, GA and support C-130J engineering, manufacturing, tooling, and production requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience supporting the C-130 or C-130J aircraft program.
  • Experience with military cargo aircraft or similar large-aircraft manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working with legacy engineering drawings and converting legacy design information into model-based or digital engineering environments.
  • Experience coordinating engineering activities with external or third-party suppliers.
  • Experience with digital engineering, product digitization, or model-based engineering initiatives.
  • Experience with NC programming is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with aircraft tooling, master tooling, production tooling, and dimensional-control processes.
