The Regional Onboard Systems Technician is responsible for installing, servicing, maintaining, and troubleshooting onboard vehicle camera and related technology systems across the assigned divisions.

 

This position supports both new system installations and maintenance of existing systems on the fleet, to ensure camera equipment, recording devices, vehicle wiring, network connections, and vehicle configurations and assignments operate reliably.

 

The technician will work directly on fleet vehicles, perform electrical and system diagnostics, execute removal and replacement of camera system hardware, configure vehicles in system portals, and document all work completed. This role also provides technical support and training to field personnel and serves as a key resource for resolving onboard technology issues.

 

Job Requirements:

  • 3+ Years experience servicing/installing/maintaining vehicle camera and telematics systems
  • Familiarity with Removal and Replacement of in-cab Cameras, DVRs, Telematics Gateways, and external cameras/cabling
  • Strong Commercial Vehicle Electrical Systems knowledge
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to perform physical demands of the position
Qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install new onboard vehicle camera systems, digital video recorders (gateways), monitors, sensors, antennas, and related components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and component replacements on existing onboard camera and vehicle technology systems.
    • Diagnose electrical, wiring, communication, hardware, software, and network-related system issues.
    • Inspect and test vehicle wiring, power sources, grounds, connectors, fuses, and communication cables.
    • Route and secure wiring and equipment in accordance with company standards, manufacturer specifications, and safe installation practices.
  • Configure cameras, DVRs, network devices, firmware, software, and associated system settings.
    • Add and configure vehicles, equipment, users, and system information within third-party provider internet portals.
    • Verify camera positioning, recording quality, connectivity, data transmission, GPS information, and overall system functionality.
  • Perform post-installation inspections and testing to confirm systems are operating properly before vehicles are returned to service.
  • Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, inspections, equipment assignments, serial numbers, and configuration changes.
  • Document completed work, identified issues, replacement parts, and recommended follow-up actions.
  • Provide field training and technical guidance to drivers, maintenance personnel, managers, and other system users.
  • Assist users with basic system operation, incident video retrieval, equipment care, and issue reporting.
  • Coordinate with fleet maintenance teams, operations personnel, and equipment/monitoring service providers.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of cameras, DVRs, wiring, connectors, mounting hardware, replacement parts, and installation supplies.
  • Follow all company safety policies while working around vehicles, electrical systems, shop equipment, and active fleet operations.
  • Travel to company locations or field sites as required to perform installations, service calls, inspections, and training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
