We're Hiring Outdoor Education Instructor!

Location: Wonder Valley Outdoor Education Center, CA
Position Type: Seasonal (Part-Time; mornings, and afternoons)
Compensation: $17.50 - $19.50 based on experience


Do you have a passion for nature, science, and inspiring young minds? Wonder Valley Outdoor Education Center is looking for energetic, enthusiastic, and compassionate educators to join our team as Outdoor Education (OE) Instructors!


What You'll Do:

As an OE Instructor, you’ll bring learning to life through hands-on, outdoor-based instruction that blends science, adventure, and leadership development. You’ll:

Teach science-based topics (e.g., geology, water cycle, aerodynamics) using Wonder Valley’s established curriculum.

Foster leadership, teamwork, and confidence in students through interactive and experiential learning.

Collaborate with a dedicated team to ensure smooth daily operations, from class setup to student orientation.

Serve as a role model, ensuring student safety and inclusivity throughout all activities.

Occasionally lead outdoor adventures such as canoeing, archery, ropes courses, and nature walks.

Required:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with enthusiasm for working with children, youth, and groups.
  • Ability to lead, engage, and interact positively with youth in an outdoor education, camp, recreation, or educational setting.
  • Willingness and availability to work flexible, seasonal, and part-time hours, including varying schedules as program needs require.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to participate in physical activities, walking, games, outdoor recreation, and other active programming.


 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or background in education, environmental science, recreation, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience working with youth in outdoor or experiential learning environments.
  • Experience with science based topics (Geology, Water cycle, Aerodynamics, etc.)
  • Familiarity with NGSS and California State Standards for grades 4–8.
  • CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain before start date).


 Physical Requirements:

  • Able to walk, stand, and teach outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Lift and carry up to 30 lbs (equipment and supplies).
  • Participate in physically active programs (e.g., canoeing, team-building games, ropes course).
