Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Inspector – Level 3 to join our team in Vandenberg, CA.      

This position uses predetermined methods, operations, setups and prescribed specifications to inspect dimensionally and visually in process and completed products such as mechanical and electronic components/assemblies and subsystems, precision electromechanical assemblies or mechanical units to ensure they conform to specifications/requirements. Works from blueprints, diagrams, customer specifications, drawings or inspection instructions and checklists. Uses various measuring devices such as calipers, gauges, dial indicators, preset micrometers, scales, fixtures, DMM's, and other hand tools. Creates Nonconformances in system applications and supports processing of nonconformances including investigation into RCCA and verification of effectiveness. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process control or other control procedures. Performs containment of potential non-conforming and support equipment. Supports various forms of electrical system and Vehicle testing, inspection of ordnance components and systems, pressurization operations and lifting/transporting operations. Has demonstrated a strong Quality and Safety mindset. Collaborates with fellow Quality team members and cross-functional members effectively and efficiently to achieve resolution of challenges, to meet customer expectations and to delivery a quality product on time and within budget.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Inspection of materials from internal or external sources and services; involving physical inspection, documenting dimensional compliance and review of supplier certifications for compliance. Includes inspection of internally manufactured parts and final assemblies throughout all stages of production and review of final test data.
  • Responsible for inspection of product in accordance with drawings, work instructions, quality acceptance procedures and maintenance of acceptance documentation/records.
  • Generate and review First Article Inspection Reports in accordance with AS9102.
  • Coordinate and assist with Customer and DCMA Source Inspections.
  • Verify calibration of tooling and other equipment is valid and current.
  • Perform a variety of inspection techniques: visual, conventional metrology (height gages, gage pins, thread gages, dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, functional gages, etc.).
  • Support project teams on non‑conformance containment, corrective actions, root‑cause investigations, audits, and other continuous‑improvement activities.
  • May require flexibility to work overtime or within other departments or programs as required, including off-site work such as launch campaigns and  special projects/assignments.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience.   
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance
  • Experience using technical drawings and following manufacturing work instructions and inspection procedures.
  • Experience with quality systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during inspection and support of Operations. Ability to lift 35 lbs.
  • Basic computer knowledge (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Experience coordinating actions and details of non‑conformance incidents and processing per procedures.

 Preferred Qualifications:  

  • TipQA experience.
  • Proficiency with and support of AS9102 including internal and external audits.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite.
  • Interim/Full Secret Clearance.
  • Experience with soldering and solder workmanship acceptance standards.

Primary Level Salary Range: $56,000.00 - $93,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
