Purpose:

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering invites applications for one lecturer for the 2026-2027 academic year.


The department is specifically seeking candidates with expertise in at least two areas of: data structures, assembly languages, logic design, algorithms, embedded systems, computer architecture, operating systems, programming languages, compilers, software engineering, database, parallel programming, machine learning, and other topics in computer science and engineering.


The full-time teaching load is 9 course equivalents (CEs) per academic year – taught over 3 academic quarters (fall, winter, spring).


A 4-unit course is 1 CE; a 2-unit graduate course is 0.66 CE; and an undergraduate lab with Teaching Assistant (TA) support is 0.25 CE. Course release(s) may be approved for advising/service to the Departments.


Basic Qualifications:

The candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree (or have a Master’s degree with relevant experience) in computer engineering, computer science, or a related field.


The candidate should have demonstrated evidence of effective university-level teaching and an understanding of the Santa Clara teaching-scholar model.


Responsibilities:

Teaching duties include but are not limited to:

A. Teach a course load equivalent to nine courses per academic year as defined by the University. Course releases may be approved for advising/service duties.

B. Conduct all assigned class meetings, assign and grade class assignments and exams.

C. Hold weekly office hours on campus and be available to students.

D. Assign and submit student grades to the registrar by the designated deadlines.

E. Conduct course assessments as required by the department(s).

F. Supervise student projects only if necessary.

G. Fulfill other necessary instructional, academic, or service activities (e.g., department meetings and department/school events).
