Position Summary

The Associate Vice President of Student Affairs provides leadership and oversight for the strategic development, implementation, and management of operations and activities related to the SFCC Student Services departments. Supervises direct reports.

Duties & Responsibilities

  •  Collaborates effectively with administrators, faculty and staff for the development of polices and procedures of enrollment management, student actives, counseling services, and student personnel programs.
  • Cultivates a supportive learning environment for SFCC students and student services departments, identifying faculty and departmental needs, analyzing data, and focusing on improving student success, retention, and graduation.
  • Directs all planning and personnel development within directly reporting units and for other functions and duties as assigned; motivates, guides, and supervises direct reports while guiding them on the department’s shared vision; delegates tasks and responsibilities to ensure department goals are met; interviews candidates for vacant positions; trains new staff in the department; provides constructive and timely performance evaluations; handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Assists with the formulation of the SFCC overall budget, coordinating the preparation, submission, and allocation for all student services budgets.
  • Monitors SFCC responsibility of compliance with federal, state, and local agencies, making accurate adjustments to policies and procedures to adhere to changes.
  • Performs research and analysis to advise modifications to enrollment management policies and practices to meet SFCC strategic goals.
  • Provides adequate recommendations during collaboration with others in the design and analysis of data tracking and collection methods and systems.
  • Represents SFCC through effective leadership and participation on committees, task forces and boards.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Vice-President of Academic and Student Affairs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of student affairs, enrollment management, counseling services, student activities, and student personnel programs in higher education.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and institutional compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of budget development, fiscal oversight, and resource allocation for student services.
  • Knowledge of data collection, reporting systems, and assessment practices to support student success, retention, and graduation.
  • Skill in collaborative leadership, policy development, and strategic planning with administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Skill in supervising, mentoring, recruiting, training, and evaluating professional staff.
  • Skill in research, data analysis, and program evaluation to inform policy and operational improvements.
  • Skill in organizational and project management, including managing multiple priorities and initiatives.
  • Skill in effective written and verbal communication, representing the institution on committees, task forces, and boards.
  • Ability to cultivate a student-centered, supportive learning environment.
  • Ability to translate institutional goals into operational plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to ensure regulatory compliance through monitoring and procedural adjustments.
  • Ability to lead teams effectively, delegate responsibilities, and foster accountability to achieve departmental goals.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and recommend improvements to policies, practices, and data systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in an academic or related professional field.
  • Ten (10) years of job-related experience to include five (5) years of supervisory experience.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education environment
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.​

  Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment.

  Schedule Designation:

  • This role will be required to work on-site in Santa Fe, NM.
  • Typically, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
