Position Summary

The Custodian performs detailed custodial and manual work in the daily care and cleaning of SFCC facilities and buildings. Ensures all areas are clean, sanitized, and presentable to maintain a healthy and safe environment for all occupants.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Cleans, sanitizes, disinfects, and details restrooms, locker rooms, classrooms, offices, lab areas, drinking fountains, conference rooms, common areas, and shower areas.
  • Empties and cleans wastebaskets and trash receptacles to maintain a tidy environment.
  • Dusts and cleans furniture, woodwork, ceiling lights (high and low), doors, windows, and air supply vents as needed.
  • Washes windows, cleans blinds, and sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors.
  • Handles spills and broken glass with care and performs carpet extraction as needed to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Moves furniture and rearranges classrooms, meeting rooms, and conference rooms.
  • Refills dispensers and restocks supplies, loads and unloads custodial supplies, and maintains the custodial closet in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Assists in snow removal from entrances, sidewalks, and exits to maintain safe access.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of proper use and care of custodial equipment and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate custodial equipment, including but not limited to vacuum cleaners and floor-cleaning machines.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools related to custodial work.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communication.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • No minimum education required; prior custodial experience is not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  Previous custodial or facilities cleaning experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Considerable physical activity. Requires lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part of job.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.

Schedule Designation:

  • This position is based on-site in Santa Fe, NM.
  • Typical shift is 1:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.; may change based on operational needs.
