Position Overview
The Medical Assistant will provide clinical and administrative support across multiple IHS facilities. The role includes direct patient interaction, diagnostic support, vaccination assistance, lab preparation, and supporting clinic operations. Rotations to satellite clinics will occur based on facility needs.
 
Key Responsibilities
-Conduct patient screening, intake, and vital collection
-Assist with venipuncture, specimen collection, documentation, labeling, and preparation for laboratory transfer
-Support vaccination clinics, medication administration, and infectious disease response
-Provide clinical support for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
-Perform point-of-care testing including strep, flu, urinalysis, glucose, and pregnancy tests
-Collect and enter patient health information into electronic medical systems
-Respond to acute and emergent patient conditions and escalate according to protocols
-Answer and route patient calls, document symptoms, and communicate with nursing teams
-Maintain infection control standards, PPE compliance, and facility protocols
-Support isolation and patient identification procedures related to communicable disease
-Wear facility-issued identification badge during all duty hours
-Complete all documentation required for background investigation and child safety compliance
 
Work Schedule & Tour Requirements
-Monday through Friday
-Shift options: 8:00–5:00, 8:00–4:30, or 8:00–6:00 (30–60 minute unpaid lunch)
-40-hour minimum per week, 100% scheduled hour attendance required
-Rotational assignments between facilities based on operational needs
-Travel between clinic sites is not billable and does not count toward duty hours
-Planned absences require advance approval; emergencies require documentation
 
Minimum Qualifications
-Completion of a state-accredited Medical Assistant program
-Minimum of 12 months Medical Assistant experience
-Current and unrestricted Medical Assistant credential/license
-High school diploma or equivalent required; progress toward associate degree preferred
-Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; ACLS and PALS preferred
 
Immunization and Health Requirements
-Proof of immunity or vaccination for MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Pertussis, and seasonal influenza
-TB test within the last 12 months, with follow-up documentation if previously positive
-Masks required during influenza season if exempt from vaccination
-Ability to operate government vehicles if assigned (training provided)
 
Security & Suitability Requirements
-Federal fingerprinting and background clearance required prior to independent duty
-No unsupervised interaction with minors permitted until clearance is fully completed
-Full compliance with federal child protection standards
-Immediate removal possible if clearance is not obtained or if adverse findings arise
