Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Coder, you will ensure precise communication with insurance companies so that services are documented correctly and payments are processed efficiently. Every day you will accurately translate patients’ medical records into standardized codes for diagnoses and treatments. Using your expertise and training, you will ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards. To be successful in this role, you must combine accuracy and attention to detail with a strong knowledge of coding standards and healthcare regulations. Clear communication with providers and staff, along with efficient management of records, ensures claims are processed correctly and on time.

Daily Operations and Procedures

    • Retrieves and reconciles daily discharged records from multiple areas within the hospital
    • Technically evaluates and preps documents for the scanning process according to defined guidelines with a 95% quality metric and meets a minimum productivity standard of 4 inches/hour
    • Scans documents in a timely manner while verifying quality and potential scanning hazards according to defined guidelines and meets a minimum productivity standard of 1200 pages/hr
    • Maintains scanner and performs scanner maintenance processes according to defined guidelines
    • Performs Quality Control and Validation processes to ensure all documents are assigned the appropriate document name and all documents are assigned to the correct patient encounter with a minimum 95% quality metric and meets a minimum productivity standard of 800 pages/hour quality control and 1000 pages/hour validation
    • Reviews discharged medical record documentation to ensure record completeness according to hospital and departmental guidelines

 

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate General Studies and Medical record experience.
  • High School GED General Studies and Medical record experience. 

Preferred

  • Completion of Medical Terminology Course, upon hire
