Description

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor leads PM-shift industrial maintenance operations in a high-volume food processing and manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for the reliability, uptime, and safe operation of production machinery, plant utilities, electrical and control systems, refrigeration equipment, automation, and material-handling assets. The supervisor provides hands-on technical leadership during equipment failures, directs troubleshooting and corrective repairs, drives preventive and predictive maintenance execution, and ensures critical production systems are returned to service safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will have a strong industrial maintenance background, proven leadership ability, and a disciplined approach to equipment reliability, root-cause troubleshooting, and minimizing unplanned downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct PM-shift industrial maintenance technicians performing troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, installation, and preventive maintenance on production machinery including conveyors, bagging systems, slicers, chillers, pumps, motors, gearboxes, forklifts, and automated equipment.
  • Lead electrical and controls troubleshooting involving three-phase motors, motor starters, control panels, PLCs, VFDs, sensors, safety circuits, and low- and high-voltage industrial equipment.
  • Oversee inspection, troubleshooting, and scheduled maintenance of industrial material-handling equipment, including forklifts, electric pallet jacks, batteries, and charging systems in accordance with OSHA requirements.
  • Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance through the plant CMMS (UpKeep); prioritize work orders based on equipment criticality, production impact, safety risk, and available resources.
  • Coordinate closely with Production, Sanitation, QA, and Safety during breakdowns, planned maintenance windows, changeovers, and equipment startups to reduce downtime and maintain production throughput.
  • Uphold strict adherence to GMPs, food safety programs (HACCP, FSMA), and Cal/OSHA safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment histories, failure information, parts consumption, and spare-parts inventory to support equipment reliability and maintenance planning.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate maintenance technicians while establishing clear expectations for safe work practices, troubleshooting discipline, workmanship, response time, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support industrial equipment installations, commissioning, line modifications, capital projects, controls upgrades, and process-improvement initiatives as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade certification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or processing environment, including at least 2 years in a maintenance supervisory or lead role.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Industrial mechanical troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, bearings, drives, gearboxes, pumps, and power-transmission components
    • Industrial electrical systems (480V, three-phase motors, control wiring, sensors, motor controls, and VFDs)
    • Industrial automation and PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley preferred)
    • Industrial refrigeration systems (ammonia and/or Freon)
    • Forklift/PIT equipment, batteries, charging systems, maintenance, and safety
  • Experience in a food processing or cold-chain environment is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with CMMS and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong industrial troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, decision-making, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • Must be flexible and responsive to after-hours calls or emergency maintenance as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in cold, wet, noisy environments typical of food processing facilities.
  • Must      be able to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Willingness to work variable hours based on production and maintenance needs.
