Job DetailsJob Location: Elementary Campus - Santa Monica, CA 90404Position Type: SeasonalSalary Range: $24.50 - $24.50 Hourly  Work Hours: Varies throughout the year/season with varied morning, mid day and evening shifts available on weekdays and weekends. Must be available to work Saturday private swim lessons April through October.  Management will consider some exceptions for limited pre-existing commitments. Essential Job Functions:  Have the ability to confidently lead private swim lessons as well as small group lessons Prevents injury by conducting proper surveillance and enforcing pool rules  Act as part of the rescue team in the event of any emergency while on duty at the aquatic facility Must attend at least one in-service training per year Core Competencies The following list represents the core competencies needed for success in this position. Patience and respect when communicating with young children and their parents The ability to maintain emotional stability and self-control Understanding of how to create appropriate swim lessons for various skill levels and ages as per Red Cross WSI standards The ability to correctly identify a student’s skill level and conduct a lesson that follows meaningful progressions The ability to correct dangerous or forbidden behavior while maintaining a respectful tone with patrons The ability to fill out incident reports in the case of an injury while on duty Understanding the facilities EAP and being prepared to use it Required Qualifications  Maintain a current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification throughout employment The ideal candidate will have at least one year of lifeguard experience Maintain a current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or equivalent  The ideal candidate will have at least one year of swim coaching or teaching experience Must be at least 17 years of age  Must be able to pass a background check or secure a work permit if still in high school Physical Demands: Must have the ability to swim 500 yards in 10 minutes, 30 seconds. Must be able to tread water for 2 minutes without use of arms. Must be able to assist in removing a victim from the water using a backboard.
