Job Summary:Â
We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to support and advance our IT infrastructure, with a primary focus on RHEL-based Linux systems and a strategic transition to Kubernetes-based containerization. This role supports a dynamic R&D lab environment that integrates closely with the broader enterprise. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and evolving both Linux and Kubernetes platforms, along with related infrastructure. You will also act as a technical advisor and liaison to lab leadership and project teams, helping bridge the gap between technical execution and strategic goals. Strong communication skills—both verbal and written—are essential for effectively engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Â

Education and Experience:Â
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or technical discipline is desired with eight (8) years of relevant experienceÂ
- Five (5) years of relevant experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degreeÂ
Required Skills:Â
- Strong expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments with at least a foundational understanding of KubernetesÂ
- Extensive experience in installing, configuring, securing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large-scale physical and/or virtual Linux environmentsÂ
- Advanced troubleshooting skills across Linux, as well as networking and storage technologiesÂ
- Proficient with infrastructure automation tools such as Puppet or AnsibleÂ
- Experience using version control systems, particularly Git and GitLabÂ
- Proficient in scripting with Bash and/or PythonÂ
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environmentÂ
- Ability to clearly communicate business and technical needs to both technical and non-technical audiencesÂ
- Excellent oral communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of a contract or project teamÂ
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and actionable documentation, including recommendations, technical assessments, and integration plansÂ
- A self-starter with a proactive, strategic mindsetÂ
- Demonstrates professionalism, patience, and diplomacy in interactions with colleagues, customers, and partnersÂ
Desired SkillsÂ
- Experience in managing teams or direct reports on past projects or within previous organizationsÂ
- Knowledge of Information Assurance (IA) principles and organizational confidentiality requirementsÂ
- Experience with VMware administrationÂ
- Familiarity with GPFS/IBM ESSÂ
- Exposure to cloud environments and architectures, particularly under Kubernetes orchestrationÂ
- General understanding of IP networking, including switching, subnets, and VLANsÂ
- Basic knowledge of hardware infrastructure, including servers, blade chassis, fiber channel, and SANsÂ
Certifications and Credentials:Â
- Active TS/SCI w/ Poly requiredÂ
- IA certification; i.e. Security+ CE or greaterÂ
 Compensation Range: 120k-200k depending on education and experience.Â
