Description

Job summary: Responsible for the organization and storage of construction materials, yard cleanliness, safe and efficient operation of yard equipment that requires acceptable performance of simple operation of equipment such as backhoe, bobcat, forklift, handtruck, etc. 


Reporting Relationships: The Yard Attendant is accountable and reports to the Equipment Manager.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Loading and unloading material and storing in an organized manner
  • Prepare and stage equipment for pick up and deliveries
  • Organize yard in preparation of incoming material storage
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the yard and related equipment
  • Ensure all equipment is properly tagged and has required key
  • Operate light power-driven equipment
  • Observe and adhere to traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in equipment operation
  • Observe and adhere to occupational hazards and standard safety practices
  • Perform a variety of physical and/or manual tasks for extended periods in unfavorable weather conditions
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Prepare written reports and/or forms
  • Work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings and Saturdays as required.
  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in general construction and maintenance work
  • Principles and techniques of field maintenance activities.

Requirements

Education:

Required: Some High School

Preferred: High School Diploma or GED. 


Licensing, registration and certification:

Required: Valid Florida Driver’s License 

Preferred: Clean driving record


Experience:

Prior experience in a construction/concrete related industry or experience as Yard Attendant or an equivalent construction/trade related operation is a plus.


Skills, knowledge and abilities required:

  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be able to work on multiple tasks at one time.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess good organization and housekeeping skills.
  • Must possess the ability to solve practical problems.
  • Must pay attention to detail
  • Must speak English well enough to take instructions from supervisor and communicate with co-workers without translators.
  • Must understand enough math to verify manifest quantities and weights. 
  • Must be able to read and write English well enough to read and understand road signs, instructions, shipping documents, routes, and other paperwork.
  • Must be physically capable of loading and unloading trucks.  
  • Must be in sound physical condition and able to perform a physically demanding job.
