The Maintenance Mechanic reporting to the Shift leader plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant equipment and systems.  Through skilled troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and timely repairs, the jobholder supports uninterrupted production, reduces downtime and upholds compliance and safety standards.  The mechanic contributes to continuous improvement efforts and supports rigorous safety, environmental and regulatory standards to strengthen plant reliability and performance. The position is located in a chemical manufacturing facility with all the inherent risks.  Weekend and on-call after-hours support will occassionally be required.  Activities include:

 

  • Participates as a member of the Maintenance Department, multi-craft workers group.
  • Participates in daily maintenance execution meeting and “Safety Toolbox”discussion.
  • Completes assigned work order tasks outlined in the morning maintenance meeting.
  • Supports and performs tasks as required.
  • Responsible for maintaining production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Completing preventative maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production equipment; follow diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturing instructions and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions for cause & correction.
  • Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examine form and texture of parts.
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring devices.
  • Adjusts equipment functional parts by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of problems identified from routine preventive maintenance tasks; monitors equipment for compliance to operating expectations.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using shop tools and equipment.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing technical materials and publications.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with HSE procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Safety and Audit support as required.

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 5 years related experience or 2 years of college/trade school in related field
  • Understanding of equipment maintenance including reading schematics and technical understanding.
  • Demonstrated understanding of plant safety principles and basic power tool operation
  • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft and CMMS programs
  • Good communication and interpersonal skilils
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty and change
  • Attention to detail
  • Professionalism in team setting 
  • Self- motivation and desire to have a positive impact on job
