Job Description:

The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all electrical scope activities at the New Lock at the Soo Project located in Sault, Ste. Marie, MI. The Project Engineer ensures the electrical systems are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with federal standards, safety regulations, and contract requirements.

The role requires teamwork, close collaboration with government representatives, design teams, self-perform field operations, subcontractors, and commissioning authorities to deliver complex electrical infrastructure supporting mission-critical facilities.

This role is required to be onsite (i.e. no remote work) at the New Lock at the Soo Project located in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage project engineering and related personnel functions and activities. Includes planning procurement, design review, project controls, work assignments, etc.
  • Ensure project engineering activities comply with company and contract requirements and support overall construction schedule
  • Prepare documents to obtain quotes from vendors to provide material, equipment, and other specialty items.
  • Track material deliveries.
  • Interface with departments, divisions, and internal staff on issues related to budgeting, staffing, discipline of employees, training/development, scheduling and other activities involving discretion and judgment.
  • Review engineering plans and vendor submittals.
  • Monitor crew assignments to ensure productivity goals are met. 
  • Conduct field walks and spot checks of work being performed.
  • Ensure compliance with Project policies and regulations.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
  • Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities.
  • Must possess superior communication and interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.).
  • Ability to build trust and achieve results with clients and company team members.
  • Ability to plan strategically over the entire span of a project and foresee and mitigate obstacles to performance.
  • Read drawings, interpret work specifications and work scopes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to have solid attention to detail, and the ability to be a problem solver.
  • Strong work ethic to complete tasks as a team in a high-quality manner.

Experience:

  • 5+ Years of experience in Electrical Project Engineering, Construction or Engineering
  • 5+ Years of experience in large industrial, power, or federal contracting projects
  • Previous work experience with USACE, NAVFAC, DoD, or other Federal Agencies is a positive
  • Previous working relationship with IBEW is a positive
