About the role

Our culinary team at Hotel Bardo Savannah is currently looking for a passionate, reliable, and personable Cooking School Chef with excellent decision-making skills to lead, train, and mentor the team supporting The Cooking School at Saint Bibiana. The Cooking School Chef is a ā€œculture setterā€ who creates and nurtures positive team dynamics across the property and is passionate about creating exceptional and rare experiences for our guests and club members. This role goes beyond culinary instruction. The Cooking School Chef is expected to operate with an entrepreneurial mindset, taking ownership of the department’s growth, revenue generation, partnerships, and market positioning in collaboration with the Brand and Marketing team. This position is based in Savannah, Georgia. Ā 

What you'll do

  • Lead cooking classes, providing hands-on, enriching experiences to our guests and members and guiding individuals through the intricacies of signature recipes and menusĀ 
  • Oversee all aspects of the daily operation of the cooking school kitchen and food production areas; hot food from the main kitchen and bakery, and cold food from the pantryĀ 
  • Monitor the quality of all food products and presentationsĀ 
  • Respond to guest complaints in a timely mannerĀ 
  • Ensure compliance with SOP’s in all outlets and requisition proceduresĀ 
  • Enforce all local health department sanitation lawsĀ 
  • Compute daily food costsĀ 
  • Assess food portion size, visual appeal, taste, and temperature of items servedĀ 
  • Check all stations at the end of every shift for proper food storage and sanitationĀ 
  • Check food purchases for proper ordering, quality, and price structureĀ 
  • Oversee daily activities such as preparation for all food items, sanitation of the outlets, receiving daily inventories, log-on reports, and food cost reports
  • Own and grow departmental revenue through diversified income streams
  • Develop, test, and scale new monetization modelsĀ 
  • Collaborate on pricing strategy, promotions, and packaging
  • Track performance metrics
  • Identify and pursue new customer acquisition channels beyond owned platforms
  • Leverage third-party marketplaces, aggregators, and experiential platforms
  • Works in close partnership with Brand and Marketing, contributing strategy, content direction, and market insight while owning business outcomes for the cooking school.

  • Proven track record of facilitating engaging and interactive cooking sessions in a luxury environmentĀ Ā 
  • Bring not only expertise in the culinary arts but also the ability to effectively articulate concepts in a public forumĀ 
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all timesĀ 
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all levels of team members and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented mannerĀ 
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by team members and guestsĀ 
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlinesĀ 
  • Attend all resort-required meetings and trainingĀ
