Overview

 

 

The Manufacturing Engineer Intern supports manufacturing engineering activities focused on improving safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency within plant operations. This role provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing processes, equipment, and continuous improvement initiatives in a commercial vehicle production environment.

 

The intern will work closely with manufacturing engineers, operations teams, and cross-functional partners to support projects related to process improvement, equipment implementation, and operational performance.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO 

  • Assist with manufacturing process improvements and efficiency initiatives.
  • Support equipment installation, startup, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Participate in safety, quality, and productivity improvement projects.
  • Collect and analyze production data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with development of standard work, process documentation, and work instructions.
  • Support plant layout, workflow optimization, and material flow improvements.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams with operations and engineering.
  • Assist with cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform time studies or basic process observations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Anticipated Projects:

  • Assist in new product development projects.
  • Explore alternative materials, welding techniques, new joining techniques and new technologies.
  • Design of electrical components.
  • Assist in stress analysis on new concepts.
  • Assist with competitive analysis.

Qualifications

YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS) 

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
    • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and mechanical systems preferred.
    • Manufacturing awareness with welding, sheet metal, assembly processes, tolerances is valuable.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective communication and ability to work independently and with others.
    • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, with excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Work environment: Spend 85% of time in office environment and 15% of time in manufacturing environment. May be exposed to possible shop hazards including high noise, heavy machinery and shop traffic. Frequent use of a computer
