Common Car Knowledge & Daily Maintenance Knowledge is Required

Candidates should have (or be willing to develop) practical, real-world automotive knowledge including:

  • Oil Changes & Fluid Checks
    Understanding oil change intervals, oil types, and maintaining proper levels of coolant, brake fluid, and other essential fluids
  • Tire Rotation
    Knowing proper rotation patterns and the importance of regular rotations to extend tire life and improve vehicle performance
  • Tire Mounting & Balancing
    Ability to mount and balance tires correctly to ensure safety, proper wear, and a smooth driving experience
  • Basic Preventative Maintenance
    Recognizing and performing routine services that help prevent major mechanical issues
  • Brake & Safety Awareness
    Identifying wear and ensuring all vehicles meet safety standards before returning to the customer
  • Daily Vehicle Use & Care
    Understanding how driving habits, weather conditions, and routine maintenance impact vehicle longevity and reliability

Essential Duties

  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
  • Diagnoses vehicle problems based on customer complaints and inspection
  • Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
  • Performs vehicle inspections using a smartphone or tablet
  • Comfortable taking photos and recording videos of inspection results for customer transparency
  • Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, not needed, or delayed
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order
  • Road tests vehicles
  • Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events
  • Keeps up with manufacturer technical bulletins
  • Inspects and test drives newly delivered vehicles
  • Installs optional equipment specified by customer or dealer
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
  • Ensures customers’ vehicles are kept clean and in good condition
  • Maintains a clean and organized shop area
  • Maintains accountability for dealership-owned tools and manuals
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, hazardous waste, etc.)
  • Operates all tools and equipment safely
  • Reports safety issues immediately
  • Completes other tasks as assigned

Education and/or Experience 

  • Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills 

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability 

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
