Position Summary:
The Electrical Project Manager / Estimator is a hybrid role responsible for both preconstruction estimating and full-cycle project management of electrical construction projects. This position plays a critical role in securing profitable work, ensuring accurate project pricing, and successfully executing projects from bid through closeout. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, cost estimating, and project execution, along with the ability to seamlessly transition between office-based estimating and field-based project management.


Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Preconstruction

  • Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate electrical estimates
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, and equipment
  • Solicit, evaluate, and level vendor and subcontractor quotes
  • Develop detailed cost estimates, bid proposals, and scope clarifications
  • Identify risks, gaps, and value engineering opportunities during the bidding phase
  • Participate in bid reviews and assist in final pricing strategy
  • Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information

Project Management & Execution

  • Manage all phases of awarded projects from kickoff through completion
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans
  • Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely execution
  • Monitor project progress, productivity, and quality standards
  • Conduct project meetings and provide updates to internal and external stakeholders

Financial Oversight

  • Track project costs, labor productivity, and profitability
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, and cost controls
  • Review and approve invoices, change orders, and purchase orders
  • Prepare and price change orders and ensure proper documentation

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, engineers, and vendors
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Ensure clear communication and high levels of customer satisfaction

Contract & Documentation Management

  • Review contracts, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, and project documentation
  • Ensure smooth handoff from estimating to project execution, maintaining scope and budget integrity

Team Collaboration & Leadership

  • Collaborate closely with estimating, field, and leadership teams
  • Provide guidance and support to foremen and field staff
  • Contribute to process improvements across estimating and project management functions


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical construction, estimating, and/or project management
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications
  • Proven experience managing projects and preparing estimates


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Proficiency in estimating software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments


Work Environment

  • Split between office-based estimating and on-site project management
  • May require travel to job sites, pre-bid meetings, and client locations
