POSITION SUMMARY:

The Underwriting Technician handles external and internal client inquiries and provides support to underwriters with the new business, endorsement, and renewal processes.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • New Business
    • Reviews and issues submissions and refers submissions beyond authority level to underwriter
    • Requests pertinent underwriting file documents and follows up with agents and insureds
    • Follows new business processing timeframes
  • Endorsements and Renewals
    • Assists underwriters in processing endorsements and renewals within established timeframes
    • Requests pertinent underwriting file documents and renewal information and follows up with agents and insureds
  • Customer service for policyholders and agents
    • Warmly and sincerely receives incoming phone and e-mail inquiries
    • Documents and researches all requests 
    • Coordinates with underwriters to update policyholder status and initiate policy changes 
    • Follows up with all parties to provide timely, accurate resolution 
    • Strives to resolve requests the day received
  • General duties
    •  Indexes incoming mail through ImageRight 
    • Supports the application set-up process 
    • Accurately maintains policyholder information and documents policyholder communication
    • Contributes to departmental initiatives and projects

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree preferred; will consider a combination of education and related experience
  • Five years of related experience
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency with emphasis on Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with ImageRight or similar policy administration software a plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with insureds, agents, underwriters, and management
  • Solid listening skills, a professional and courteous manner, and the ability to build strong working relationships across the organization
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to independently manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure
  • Creative problem-solver who responds quickly to requests and easily adapts to shifting priorities and company needs

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Occasionally (several times a week) lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 10 pounds while fulfilling responsibilities
  • Frequently sits for long periods of time


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Performs work in an office environment (hybrid opportunity at manager's discretion)
