Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a Senior Program Manager who is a highly organized, passionate individual with excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Working with various engineering teams at Joby Aviation (including Design, Manufacturing, Certification, and more), the Program Manager will develop and execute appropriate strategies and tactics that allow the company to achieve milestones on schedule and meet quality and financial requirements. This position will be based in our Santa Cruz headquarters and the primary responsibilities will include scheduling and planning for Airframe Structures Testing team projects. This role will operate in a fast-paced, demanding, and rewarding environment with very high expectations for individual contribution.

Responsibilities

  • Own, coordinate, and manage detailed project plans for the Airframe Structures Test Program, ensuring alignment with the overall Integrated Master Schedule
  • Track daily project tasks and deliverables and surface risks, blockers, and critical path items
  • Collaborate with other program managers and Integrated Product Teams to ensure convergence of company-level efforts to achieve key milestones
  • Guide the team to meet aggressive timelines through the use of sound judgment, critical thinking skills, and creative resource management
  • Pitch in with hands-on problem solving to resolve blockers and address critical path issues when needed
  • Drive proactive risk management and seek to resolve any potential issues ahead of them limiting the program
  • Create, maintain, communicate, and present schedules to multiple audiences, from individual contributors to executives
  • Help engineering leads create growth, organizational, and budgeting strategies for the team, as well as provide feedback that will allow the team to achieve higher operating efficiency
  • Develop and maintain tools to facilitate the various reporting and planning functions described above

Required

  • Bachelor’s in engineering or relevant fields
  • 4+ years of experience in an engineering environment with responsibility for implementing or managing change
  • Experience building realistic, measurable plans that balance accountability with flexibility
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Hands-on experience in the simultaneous management of multiple complex, high-paced engineering projects
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to anticipate issues, rally the right people, and resolve blockers efficiently
  • Solid understanding of the product development cycle for hardware-centric projects from early design through completion and launch
  • Expertise in project management tools such as MS Project, Smartsheet, Confluence, and JIRA
  • Strong skills in common workplace software (word processor, spreadsheet, presentation software, etc.)

Desired

  • Experience with aerospace projects and FAA certification process
  • Experience with composite manufacturing and testing

Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $149,500 - $250,300/yr.  The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
