ABOUT THE ROLE

The Project Accountant is the financial owner of assigned projects, responsible for end‑to‑end project financial performance from proposal and contract execution through billing, cash collection, and closeout. Partnering closely with Project Managers, Project Directors, Partners, and the Accounting team, this role ensures comprehensive financial oversight at the project level.

While transaction processing resides within centralized accounting functions, the Project Accountant retains ownership of project‑level financial accuracy, alignment, risk identification, and issue resolution. 

This role manages multiple concurrent projects with varying contract types and complexity and operates with a high degree of autonomy while remaining closely aligned with project leadership. 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own the complete financial life cycle of assigned projects 
• Ensure alignment across contracts, budgets, billing, consultant commitments, and cash flow 
• Proactively identify financial risks, discrepancies, or trends and drive resolution 
• Develop fee estimates for proposals, amendments, and additional services 
• Ensure proposals and contracts are accurate and aligned with scope 
• Initiate and manage contract setups and modifications 
• Maintain and evolve fee proposal templates 

• Own client billing and invoicing accuracy 
• Coordinate monthly invoicing with Project Managers 
• Monitor invoice aging and drive collections 
• Forecast contract revenue 
• Track project revenue, back log, margins, and budgets 
• Support month‑end close activities 
• Maintain revenue budgets and reporting 
• Accurate and timely billing 
• Reduced invoice aging and improved cash flow 
• Consultant invoices aligned before payment 
• Clear monthly project financial visibility 
• Early risk identification 

QUALIFICATIONS

• • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 
  • Strong Excel proficiency 
  • Experience with Deltek Ajera, NetSuite, or other ERP systems 
  • Sound financial judgment and attention to detail 
  • High integrity and professionalism
