Discovery Land Company is seeking a full-time, year-round Staff Accountant to join the Finance and Accounting Department.

Job Summary:

Discovery Land Company is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support our Corporate Accounting team. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including journal entry preparation and account reconciliations.

  • Record daily cash activity, including bank transactions, receipts, and disbursements, ensuring accurate and timely entries in the general ledger.

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing, payment runs, and aging report review.

  • Prepare and analyze financial reports and variance analyses for management review.

  • Assist with fixed asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and capitalization policy compliance.

  • Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules and gathering supporting documentation.

  • Help maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (FP&A, operations, legal) to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Assist with ad hoc projects and analysis as directed by senior accounting leadership.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA candidate preferred.

  • 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs); experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, SAP) a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Flexibility and ability to pivot to new projects and desire to work in fast-paced environment.

  • CPA or active pursuit of CPA licensure preferred.

  • Experience with multi-entity or intercompany accounting preferred.

  • Exposure to financial statement preparation preferred.
