Location: This is an onsite role based at Nextiva’s Scottsdale headquarters (9451 E. Via de Ventura, Scottsdale, AZ 85256). Working together onsite strengthens how we operate, enabling faster decisions, clearer communication, and stronger execution, so you can make a greater impact and move work forward with speed and clarity.

In-Office Expectation: This role is expected to work onsite four days per week. Specific scheduling and flexibility will be guided by your leader to support both team collaboration and individual productivity.

Nextiva is looking for a Senior Indirect Tax Analyst to support the Director, Tax in leading the company's indirect tax function, with primary responsibility for sales and use tax, property tax, and telecom-related tax compliance. This is a hands-on role for someone who can operate both tactically and strategically — driving compliance excellence, process improvements, and automation initiatives in a fast-growing environment. As Nextiva continues to scale globally, this role will also touch VAT/GST compliance and support broader tax accounting and planning initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Indirect Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Oversee the filing of US sales/use tax, property tax, telecom, and other non-income tax returns across multiple states, partnering with external service providers.
  • Manage GST compliance and filings for Nextiva's international operations and customer base
  • Review and validate monthly indirect tax accruals; collaborate with accounting on reconciliation and reporting
  • Maintain documentation to support tax positions, calculations, and financial statement disclosures
  • Support resolution of indirect tax audits, notices, and inquiries end-to-end

Technical Research & Risk Management

  • Research and document sales/use, telecom, and VAT/GST tax issues, and provide clear guidance to internal stakeholders
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments across jurisdictions; assess impact and flag planning opportunities
  • Conduct nexus studies and taxability analyses as Nextiva expands into new states and markets
  • Identify areas of tax exposure and help implement corrective actions to minimize risk

Process Improvement & Systems Optimization

  • Partner with Finance and IT on ERP design, implementation, and enhancements related to indirect tax compliance and automation
  • Integrate AI-enabled tools into daily workflows to reduce manual effort and improve data accuracy
  • Support tax engine configuration, testing, and maintenance (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, or similar)
  • Maintain exemption and resale certificates, and conduct periodic compliance reviews to keep documentation audit-ready

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Legal, and Operations to ensure tax considerations are built into business decisions
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders to promote awareness of tax implications and compliance responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, or related field required
  • 5-7 years of progressive indirect tax experience, with strong emphasis on sales/use tax and property tax; telecom tax experience preferred
  • Exposure to international VAT/GST compliance
  • Experience managing compliance processes in a multi-state environment
  • Big 4 public accounting and/or in-house indirect tax experience, ideally in a SaaS, subscription, or telecommunications business
  • Hands-on experience with tax engines/software (Vertex, Avalara, OneSource, or similar)
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience using automation, AI tools, or advanced analytics (Excel, Alteryx, or similar) to improve tax or finance processes
  • CPA or CMI certification preferred
  • Strong technical research and analytical skills — able to translate complex tax matters into clear business guidance
  • Comfortable owning deadlines independently, with minimal supervision

Strategic Support & Special Projects

  • Support income tax data gathering, tax accounting, and tax planning initiatives as needed
  • Participate in company-wide initiatives, system implementations, and other strategic projects
  • Maintain a forward-looking perspective on industry and tax developments impacting Nextiva's business model

Why This Role

  • Full-scope ownership across the indirect tax lifecycle — compliance, audit defense, planning, and technology
  • Direct visibility with Finance leadership at a company that promotes from within
  • Room to build and improve processes rather than inherit a fixed playbook
  • Competitive pay, medical coverage, mental health resources, 401(k)/retirement programs, and flexible time off

Work Environment

This role is based on site at Nextiva's Scottsdale, AZ headquarters, Monday through Thursday. Nextiva's culture is fast-paced and ownership-driven — candidates should be comfortable with real responsibility and a high bar for impact.
