Overview

As a Charge Nurse, you’ll be responsible for supervising and directing nursing care in all clinical areas of the facility according to its policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives. You’ll work closely with the ASC Manager/Administrator and medical staff in coordinating patient-care service functions within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Makes staffing assignments in every area to ensure adequate coverage
  • Trains, coaches and mentors ASC staff
  • Encourages a team oriented environment and follows company guidelines and policies
  • Fosters development of strong relationships and keeps an open line of communication between the surgery center staff, clinic staff and providers to ensure high productivity
  • Greets and admits patients to the pre-/post-operative area; works in the OR as assigned
  • Assists with patient scheduling in all clinical areas
  • Cares for the patient in a variety of settings, providing professional nursing care in ambulatory surgery center and completes appropriate documentation
  • Assumes the role and responsibilities of circulating nurse as assigned
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care using the nursing process and taking into account individual patient needs
  • Checks vital signs, inserts and removes IV catheters, assesses patient needs and reports abnormal values to the physician, anesthesia staff, and/or surgery staff
  • Ensures that all consent and acknowledgement forms are signed and witnessed
  • Verifies the surgery type and location to be performed
  • Administers drops and all medications in accordance with current guidelines
  • Assists in finding resolution of problems to ensure surgical case flow continues uninterrupted
  • Ensures patient continuity of care with family and/or significant others
  • Works with the Nursing Director, ASC Manager and/or Administrator and Quality & Compliance to ensure the center abides by all surgery standards and regulations
  • May assume responsibilities for ASC Manager as Acting Administrator in their absence
  • Delivers discharge instructions and discharges patient in accordance with current guidelines
  • Orders supplies for pre-op/recovery and sterile processing areas as needed
  • Maintains familiarity with code procedure and crash cart
  • Makes recommendations on the orientation process for new hires and ensures documentation of the same
  • Performs any and all duties assigned

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred
  • Current Arizona RN License
  • 1+ years Ophthalmologic Nursing experience preferred
  • 1+ years management/charge experience preferred
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hiring
  • Detail oriented, reliable and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Dedication to creating an exceptional patient experience
  • Basic knowledge of scheduling and insurance authorization
  • Flexible schedule Monday-Friday
