UPMC Health Plan and WorkPartners is hiring a flexible full-time Onsite Health Assistant to work onsite at our higher education client in Scranton! This role will work Monday - Friday daylight hours. Flex full-time staff work a minimum of 28 hours per week with the flexibility to work up to 40 hours. 

The Onsite Health Assistant will be responsible for making and scheduling patient appointments in an efficient and timely manner. Assists customers in person and on the phone, providing information, and communicating with various departments. Obtains and enters complete demographic and insurance information. Performs non-invasive patient assessment, under proper supervision, and assists with referrals and resource integration. Provides general health education to patients and participants of Onsite Services and Onsite Health Promotion.

Responsibilities:
 

  • Utilize appropriate modules of the automated financial management system for scheduling, information verification, entering charges, co-payment collection/ reconciliation and other tasks. Schedule, coordinate, and reschedule patient's appointments. Relay necessary messages to staff and providers. Verify necessary information and records in the medical record and computerized scheduling system. Prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments.
  • Maintain and update current information on physician's schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed. Distribute supplies to team members in person or by shipping. Answer telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information. Answer questions regarding patient appointments and testing. 
  • Greet and register patients in a polite, prompt, helpful manner. Provide any necessary instructions/directions. Inform appropriate department/person of person's arrival performing appropriate check-in and check-out functions.
  • Complete necessary paperwork such as encounter forms and referrals. Use computer system to generate information necessary for billing. Performs all duties within the policies and procedures of the UPMC Health System and applicable regulatory standards such as HIPAA. Set up screening and education events according to Onsite Service event standards
  • Maintain clean, orderly waiting area including beverage area and reading and reference materials.
  • Complies with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures. Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Develops and maintains knowledge of site-specific, UPMC and community-based health and wellness resources. Perform evaluation of biometrics, including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, body mass index and other clinical measures. Provides patient education and wellness referrals according to appropriate guidelines and matrixes.
  • Facilitates collaboration between external health resources and UPMC Health Plan. Improve and increase professional capacity through internal and external courses, training opportunities, and/or maintaining certifications. Exhibit a presence that serves as a basis for exemplifying all UPMC values.
  • Adheres to standard of dress based upon client/service. Observably demonstrates commitment to a healthy and balanced lifestyle in regard to physical activity, healthy eating, stress management, weight management and is a nonsmoker.


  • High school diploma or GED is required. 
  • Graduate of a secondary education Health Sciences, Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation Therapy Technology, or Health Assistant program (or equivalent post-secondary education credit) preferred. 
  • Prior medical experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and first aid.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office or google operating systems required.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
     
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
