Project Safety Supervisor
Sentry Electrical Group, Inc.
Wolcott, Indiana | Wind Project Site
Per Diem Available | Full Benefits | 401(k)

WHO WE ARE

Sentry Electrical Group is a specialty contractor working exclusively in the renewable energy industry, with projects spanning wind and solar installations across the country. In the wind sector, we travel to project sites to perform tower wiring installation on new turbines and repower projects. Our crews are on-site during the build phase - fitting out towers, running and connecting wiring systems, and getting turbines ready to operate. It is hands-on, physical work with long days and a strong team culture.

We are hiring a Project Safety Supervisor for our wind project near Wolcott, Indiana.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You are the safety presence on this project - on the ground with the crew every day work is being performed, not running it from an office. You will be present on site at all times while work is underway. Reporting to the Safety Director, your responsibilities include:

  • Providing day-to-day safety oversight of Sentry employees and subcontractors for the full duration of site operations
  • Delivering site-specific safety orientation and training so every person on site understands the project safety plan, Sentry policy, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements
  • Walking the site continuously - observing work at the tower base, at height, and in laydown and staging areas - and identifying hazards and gaps in safety execution
  • Stopping work when conditions warrant, and driving corrective action to closure promptly and with documentation
  • Leading and attending project safety meetings, daily huddles, and job hazard analysis reviews, including participation from subcontractor safety personnel
  • Investigating incidents, near misses, and property damage; completing reports and root cause analysis on time
  • Maintaining incident reporting procedures, OSHA recordkeeping, and required project safety documentation
  • Coordinating emergency response and tower rescue readiness, including drills, and remaining available for on-call response
  • Conducting environmental, health, and safety compliance audits, including site stormwater and SWPPP requirements
  • Serving as the safety point of contact with the customer, owner's representatives, and outside agencies
  • Supporting DOT compliance in the field, including driver qualification, hours of service, vehicle inspections, and post-accident procedures
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the Safety Director

WHO THRIVES IN THIS ROLE

We are looking for a hands-on safety professional who is comfortable in boots on an active construction site. The crews here work long days in weather, at height, and on a schedule. The people who succeed in this seat earn credibility by being out there with them, not by sending emails about it.

Our best safety supervisors have often come from backgrounds like:

  • Wind construction or repower projects
  • Cell tower, telecom, or other work-at-height environments
  • Heavy civil, utility, or industrial construction safety
  • Military or other structured, safety-critical environments

You should be someone who can hold a firm line on a stop-work call and still keep a good working relationship with the crew and the customer the next morning.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • Five or more years of safety supervision or safety technician experience on active construction or industrial sites
  • Current OSHA 500 (Construction Outreach Trainer) certification, or OSHA 510 with the ability to complete OSHA 500 within 30 days of hire
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification
  • Ability to climb wind turbine towers to heights of 200-400 ft, and willingness to complete climb and controlled descent training
  • Ability to participate in tower rescue response
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926) and DOT and FMCSA regulations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and comfort with web-based reporting tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Ability to travel to project sites and to work overtime and variable schedules as the project requires
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods, and to work outdoors in demanding and inclement conditions
  • Ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write in English

HELPFUL BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Prior wind energy construction experience
  • GWO Basic Safety Training or Working at Heights certification
  • CHST, ASP, or CSP certification
  • Bilingual English and Spanish

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Per diem for qualifying travel assignments
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Continued assignments on active project sites across the country for the right candidate
  • A company that backs its safety supervisors when they make the call to stop work
