Position Summary

Shift:  4:00PM until 12:00AM 

Days: Monday - Friday

Hailiang Copper Texas, Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our Quality Department at our manufacturing facility in Sealy, Texas. The Laboratory Technician will perform routine testing, inspection, and analysis of copper products and materials to ensure they meet company specifications, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards.

This position works closely with Quality, Production, and Technical personnel to identify quality issues, maintain accurate testing records, and support continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing and analysis of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished copper products.
  • Prepare samples for testing using established laboratory procedures and equipment.
  • Conduct dimensional, mechanical, chemical, and physical testing as required.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory testing and measurement equipment.
  • Accurately document test results and maintain laboratory and quality records.
  • Compare test results against established product specifications and customer requirements.
  • Promptly communicate out-of-specification results or other quality concerns to Quality and Production leadership.
  • Assist with investigation of product defects, nonconforming material, and manufacturing quality issues.
  • Support incoming material, in-process, and finished-product inspection activities as needed.
  • Follow established sampling plans, testing procedures, work instructions, and quality standards.
  • Perform routine calibration checks and assist with maintaining calibration records for laboratory and inspection equipment.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Follow all company safety requirements, including appropriate use of PPE and safe handling of samples, chemicals, and laboratory equipment.
  • Support internal and external quality audits as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Engineering, Technical, and Quality personnel to improve product quality and manufacturing processes.
  • Perform other quality-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or technical training in chemistry, materials science, metallurgy, manufacturing technology, quality, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous laboratory, quality inspection, manufacturing, or testing experience preferred.
  • Experience in a metals, copper, tubing, extrusion, casting, or other industrial manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Ability to accurately use measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, scales, and other laboratory or inspection equipment.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and electronic data entry.
  • Ability to read and follow specifications, procedures, work instructions, and testing requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document testing results.
  • Ability to recognize abnormal results and escalate quality concerns appropriately.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees across Quality and Production departments.
  • Willingness to learn new laboratory equipment, testing methods, and manufacturing processes.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in both laboratory and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely lift and handle product samples and testing materials.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • May be exposed to noise, heat, moving equipment, metal products, chemicals, and other conditions typical of an industrial manufacturing facility.
  • Must be able to work the assigned shift and overtime as required by production needs.
