Position Summary

The Truck Mechanic performs preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repair on Class 8 tractors to keep the fleet safe, DOT-compliant, and on the road. Growth and additional responsibility are supported through in-house training.

Qualifications

  1. 2+ years of experience in Class 8 tractor repair.
  2. Working knowledge of electronic diagnostic tools used for engine, transmission, and electrical system troubleshooting.
  3. Basic computer proficiency, including entering work orders, parts usage, and repair notes into a computerized maintenance system.
  4. Class A or B CDL preferred but not required.
  5. Must supply standard hand tools and provide secure storage; company supplies diagnostic equipment and shop machinery.
  6. Able to safely operate power tools, welders, cutting torches, air tools, and heavy shop machinery.
  7. Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA inspection standards and safety regulations.

General Responsibilities

  1. Perform preventive maintenance: oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacement, and scheduled PM inspections.
  2. Diagnose and repair brakes, air systems, and electrical systems on tractors.
  3. Change tires.
  4. Fuel trucks as needed; shuttle trucks in and out of the shop.
  5. Diagnose, repair, or replace engines, transmissions, and rear ends.
  6. Inspect and repair equipment to D.O.T. specifications; complete required inspection documentation.
  7. Log completed work, parts used, and labor hours in the fleet maintenance system.
  8. Handle washing and cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with SDS guidelines.
  9. Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
  10. Work extended hours when needed and respond to after-hours emergency repair calls.

Physical Requirements

  1. Lift up to 100 pounds periodically (up to 20 times per day); lift up to 50 pounds regularly throughout the shift.
  2. Stand up to 85% of a 10-hour shift.
  3. Lie on a creeper up to 50% of a 10-hour shift.
  4. Squat, push, pull, bend, and walk throughout a 10-hour shift.
  5. Work in close proximity to running machinery and moving equipment.
  6. Most work is performed in the shop, which is equipped with jumbo ceiling fans.

Schedule & Benefits

Pay: Commensurate with experience.

Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts weekly (4x10); occasional after-hours and on-call repair calls as needed.
