Job Description

This Research Scientist 3 position will support research projects focused on understanding how in vivo amyloid dynamics impact the appearance, propagation, interference, severity, and/or loss of prion phenotypes in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

1.         Perform research in protein folding.  30%

2.  Perform routine and help develop new techniques in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and genetics. 10%

3.         Maintain databases of laboratory stocks and reagents. 10%

4.         Coordinate the ordering and maintenance of research materials and equipment. 10%

5.         Ensure laboratory safety and coordinate compliance. 10%

6.         Presenting results at scientific conferences. 5%

7.         Writing up results for publication in international journals. 5%

8. Train undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers in laboratory techniques 15%

9.         Providing research training for HS students. 5%

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry + 4 years of laboratory research experience.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Additional Requirement:

  • Competence in standard protein biochemistry techniques (Extraction of proteins from Cell lysate, gel electrophoretic analyses, stability assays, etc)
  • Competence in standard molecular biology techniques (recombinant DNA, PCR, fluorescence microscopy, etc)
  • Competence in data and standard statistical analyses
  • Excellent organizational/record-keeping skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Competence with computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature
  • Self-motivation

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ph.D in Biochemistry or related field.
  • previous work experience with yeast
  • working knowledge of mathematical modeling of biological systems

Pay Range Minimum:

$80,244.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$91,200.00 annual
