This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, contributing to innovative solutions, whileĀ demonstratingĀ personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail.Ā

You will work directly withĀ NASA asĀ part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon, this time to stay.Ā 

Ā 

You will be aĀ Thermal Analysis Engineer IIIĀ within the Thermal Product Team. You willĀ be responsible forĀ performing and leading thermal analysis projects at system-level and/orĀ subsystem-level for our lunar landers during ground, launch, Earth orbit, cis-lunar space, lunar orbit, and lunar surface mission phases.Ā Ā

Contribute to a team of Thermal Engineers simultaneously developing groundbreaking lunar landers. Responsibilities:Ā 

Engineers may focus on system-level analysis of the lunar lander or component-level analysis of products, depending on their background and interest.Ā 

  • Own the delivery and quality of thermal analysis of one or more spacecraft systems/components, often including the work of several contributing analystsĀ 

  • Build thermal models in Thermal Desktop based on system inputs from external teamsĀ 

  • Collect analysis inputs from stakeholders and responsible engineersĀ 

  • Check own work and correct errors independentlyĀ 

  • Post process analysis results to draw engineering conclusions from output dataĀ 

  • Predict spacecraft and part temperatures across all mission phasesĀ 

  • IdentifyĀ non-compliances to thermal requirements and drive them to resolutionĀ 

  • Perform trade studies and optimizations of thermal design solutions and collaborate with externalĀ subsystemsĀ on the trade offsĀ 

  • Author and publish analysis reports in various mediums to support engineering decision makingĀ Ā 

  • Generate and present design review content to subsystem, vehicle and business unit partners and customers, including program gated reviewsĀ 

  • Create work plans, documentĀ progressĀ and report status to leads and managersĀ 

  • Lead and mentor early-career analysis engineersĀ 

Required Qualifications:Ā 

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineeringĀ 

  • 5Ā years of relevant Thermal Analysis experienceĀ 

  • Established understanding of heat transfer fundamentals in space environmentĀ 

  • Good understanding of common spacecraft thermal hardwareĀ 

  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processĀ 

Desired Qualifications:Ā 

  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineeringĀ 

  • 8Ā years of relevant Thermal Analysis experienceĀ 

  • Strong understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers,Ā etc.Ā and semi-passive devices like sensors and heatersĀ 

  • Familiar with thermal environments of lunar missionsĀ 

  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problemsĀ demonstratingĀ breadth in applicationĀ 
  • Demonstrated experience in model correlation based on test resultsĀ 
  • Expert in Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint, including model validation and test correlationĀ 
  • ProficiencyĀ in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, FORTRAN,Ā Matlab)Ā

Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $110,938.00 - $155,312.85 WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
