Housing & Food Services (HFS) has an outstanding opportunity for a Food Service Worker to join their team.

Housing & Food Services supports over 10,000 student residents and operates 40+ dining locations on campus. With a team of over 1,200 staff and students, HFS is dedicated to enhancing student life through teamwork and excellent service.

POSITION PURPOSE

Work as a key team member in a dynamic, high volume food service environment with other full-time and student employees. Typical work includes providing customer service for guests, assembling and serving food items, preparing beverages, assisting cooks in preparation and production of menu items, cashiering and maintaining cleanliness.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform basic preparation including, paring fruits and vegetables, reheating refrigerated or frozen soups, assembling sandwiches and salads, toasting bread, preparing hot and cold beverages and/or packaging grab and go items.
  • Set up the workstation and/or display counters for preparation and service, based on production sheets and established plans.
  • Restock and rotate station according to established plans, par levels and food handling policies and procedures.
  • Receive customer orders and answer questions about ingredients, recipes and pricing.
  • Gather, assemble, package, and serve menu items to customer order.
  • Prepare specialty beverages to customer order.
  • Operate point of sale system, accurately key in sales and take payment. Maintain compliance with all PCI training requirements and standards.
  • Continuously clean, sanitize and maintain order of workstation, prep areas, service counters and seating areas.
  • Ensure that all unused food is properly handled, wrapped, dated, labeled and stored.
  • Document records of foods produced, foods wasted, and any recipe adjustments on worksheets provided.
  • Continuously clean and maintain order of workstation and prep areas, including sweeping and mopping.
  • Report safety issues, equipment malfunctions or operational problems to management.
  • May direct student or hourly staff.
  • May participate in inventory.
  • May participate in serving plated food at catered or special events.
  • May wash dishes, pots, pans, wares, trays and aprons.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
  • Perform related duties as requested.

POSITION DIMENSIONS

There are 9-month or 11.5-month cyclic positions available. These positions are located at various UW Dining venues, and across various shifts (days, evenings, weekends). Schedules may be changed with two weeks’ notice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes.
