UW Medicine - Supply Chain Management-Strategic Sourcing has an outstanding opportunity for a Contract Specialist – Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO)

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

UW Medicine Supply Chain provides strategic sourcing and contracting services to support clinical, research, and administrative operations across UW Medicine. Our team ensures compliance, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with institutional goals while delivering exceptional customer service.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

The Contract Specialist - MRO will serve as the institutional Strategic Contracting authority for facilitating Maintenance, Repair & Operations (MRO) issues and trends, and for coordinating UW Medicine policy and strategic direction in association with other units whose interests and expertise are crucial to successful resolution of MRO issues.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage & Execute Contracts

  • Lead all aspects of MRO contracting, including solicitation, negotiation, and administration of complex agreements for maintenance, repair, and operations, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, cybersecurity standards, and risk management requirements

  • Manage the full contract lifecycle for significant services involving complex goods and services, including planning, solicitation, negotiation, award, and contract administration

Analyze Data

  • Partner with the Value Analysis Portfolio Manager to conduct financial & risk analysis to meet departmental needs by utilizing Supply Chain tools and processes to make data-driven recommendations for creating contracts and increase UW Medicine’s contract-covered spend

Develop and Maintain Commodity Expertise

  • Conduct ongoing research to maintain knowledge of emerging MRO market trends, as well as technological and market development in assigned commodities areas

Develop and Maintain Positive Department Support Relationships

  • Build strong partnerships with departments and suppliers to promote utilization of MRO contracts, resolve performance issues, and maximize contract benefits

Support Departmental Initiatives

  • Participate in process improvement projects, contribute to long-term planning, and assist with operational activities such as reporting and contract maintenance

  • Collaborate with the MRO teams and the Value Analysis Portfolio Manager to identify metrics for evaluation and develop business reviews as needed

System Proficiency

  • Demonstrate proficient use of procurement systems and assist customers and suppliers to utilize systems efficiently

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in healthcare MRO, supply chain management, or another quantitative field

  • Three (3) years of experience in procurement and contracting activities supporting a healthcare organization, preferably in the public sector or a research/teaching setting

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and items commonly used in a hospital setting

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in developing, negotiating, and administering major MRO goods, services and equipment contracts

  • Work in a high-volume environment where great emphasis is placed on customer service and creative problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency in computer applications including spreadsheets, word processing, email, and web-based tools

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
