The Data Architect is the principal designer and steward of Holland America Line and Seabourn's enterprise data architecture, centered on our Snowflake-first platform. This role defines canonical data models, integration patterns, and governance standards that enable analytics, Customer 360, marketing activation, and AI/ML initiatives across the organization. Serving as the architectural authority across all data engineering PODs, the Data Architect ensures that solutions built by internal teams, offshore partners, and vendors conform to a coherent, scalable, and cost-efficient enterprise design.

 

Here’s a summary of what Holland America Line is looking for.  Is this you? 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain the target-state architecture for the Snowflake data platform (lakehouse patterns, medallion layering, schema design, naming conventions), and ensure all POD-level development conforms to these standards.

  • Enable AI/ML and advanced analytics foundations.

  • Optimize platform cost, performance, and scalability.

  • Define ingestion, CDC, ETL, and API patterns connecting Snowflake with multiple source and target systems.

  • Establish data governance, security, and compliance frameworks.

 

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Scope: The Data Architect operates with broad independent authority over enterprise data design decisions, including approval of data models, integration patterns, and platform standards across all data engineering PODs. Daily work involves balancing competing priorities from business verticals (commercial, marketing, operations, finance) while enforcing a single coherent architecture.

  • Problem solving: Root-cause analysis, quantitative and cost reasoning, conflict resolution, technology 

  • Impact: This role establishes the data architectural foundation enabling customer 360, personalized marketing activation, AI-driven insights, and guest experience initiatives.      

  • Leadership: IT leadership experience coordinating technical developers

 

Essential/Minimum qualifications:

  • Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience; proficiency and certification in Snowflake; proficiency in cloud concepts; Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work with diverse organizations and teams; Strong oral and written communication skills; Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

 

Essential Experience Required:

  • 7 years of Architecture, Administration, and development experience in data warehousing, ETL, and BI; Experience in cloud concepts (minimum 3 years preferred); Software engineering with experience in design, development, and scheduling batch scripts (minimum 5 years required); •Experience with a relational database (like Oracle, Snowflake, SQL Server, MySQL, Teradata or Netezza) (minimum 5 years required); Experience in Snowflake.

 

Travel: No or very little travel likely

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

 

This position is classified as “in-office.”  As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Monday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Fridays.  Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Seattle, WA area.

  • Base Salary Range: $124,600 to $168,200 The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidate’s qualifications and experience uniquely.
