Position Summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Director of MEP Facility Engineering to lead the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and process piping engineering organization. Leading through subordinate managers and senior engineers, the Director of MEP Facility Engineering owns the strategy, execution, and long-term capability of a multidisciplinary team that designs new and modified facility systems and safeguards the health and reliability of existing systems across multiple Blue Origin locations. This is a senior leadership role responsible for setting technical direction, building organizational capacity, managing budget and headcount, and partnering with senior operations, manufacturing, and program leaders to deliver the facility infrastructure that enables Blue Origin's mission. The Director leads a geographically distributed organization and is accountable for its performance, growth, and culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the vision, strategy, and technical direction for the MEP engineering organization spanning mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and process piping disciplines.
  • Lead through subordinate managers and senior engineers; develop management talent and build a durable, multi-site organizational structure that scales with demand.
  • Own the design of new and modified facility systems and the oversight of existing system health, ensuring safe, code-compliant, reliable, and cost-effective outcomes across all sites.
  • Establish enterprise engineering standards, design-review gates, and quality and reliability programs, and drive their consistent adoption across locations.
  • Own the organization's budget, headcount, and capital planning; forecast resources and make investment decisions that balance near-term execution with long-term strategy.
  • Serve as the senior engineering partner to operations, manufacturing, program management, and construction/integration leadership, aligning facility scope with enterprise priorities and resolving cross-organizational conflicts.
  • Ensure appropriate involvement of licensed professional engineers (PEs) and adherence to signed-and-sealed and regulatory requirements across the portfolio.
  • Champion facility turnover, commissioning, and reliability processes that ensure systems are delivered and sustained to a high standard.
  • Build and scale the organization — attracting, hiring, and retaining top engineering and management talent, and developing the in-house design capability.
  • Represent facility engineering in executive-level reviews and travel between sites as needed to engage stakeholders, support teams, and assess systems in the field.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering discipline.
  • 15+ years of relevant engineering experience, including significant experience in facilities, building systems, or industrial MEP design.
  • 7+ years of engineering leadership experience, including managing managers or leading teams through subordinate leaders.
  • Demonstrated technical breadth across multiple MEP disciplines (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, process piping).
  • Proven success leading large, distributed, multi-site engineering organizations.
  • Experience owning organizational budget, headcount, and capital planning.
  • Strong command of applicable building codes, standards, and the full design/construction/commissioning lifecycle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Master's degree in engineering or an MBA.
  • Experience in aerospace, semiconductor, industrial, or other complex manufacturing/test environments.
  • Experience with process piping systems and specialty fluids/gases.
  • Track record of building, transforming, and scaling in-house engineering organizations.
  • Experience partnering at the executive level with operations and manufacturing on facility strategy, turnover, and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Revit/BIM and common-data-environment workflows.
